Grade Level: Pre- Prep – year 2 Subject: literacy

Learning Outcome:
- Students will be able correct a piece of narrative.
- Students will be able to add conjunctions, and connectives.

Projector – white board – a story – markers. I have to make sure that the projector works, and that

Opening (warmer activity + teacher introduction/demonstration of small group activities)
- First, I will let them figure out what is today’s topic by choosing paint splatter.

- After knowing what the topic is, I will start the lesson by explaining the rules, students who
show outstanding performance during the class will get a happy face/ sticker.
Time: 10-15 mins
Whole Group

- I will then ask them about the connectives, conjunctions, and punctuations that we usually
use in stories.
- After that I will display the narrative on the projector, before starting I will explain to the
students what we will be doing.
- I will read the narrative and as I finish each sentence I will choose a student to tell me if
there is something missing from it.

Questions I may ask:


 Could you help me find the errors and mistakes?
 Do you know what is a conjunction/ connective?
 What do you think our lesson is for today?
 Could you help me read?

- After that I will send them out to their groups which will be divided into three:
1. Supports group.
2. Core group.
3. Challenge group.
I will walk around, and I will observe the student’s work. Also, I will focus on behavior on and
group work.
Guided Experience (group working with the teacher)
- They will work individually with the help of Ms. Nyhan, they will correct small mistakes
on the text.
- They will get extra hints on where they might find the mistake, or the hint will say whether
its spelling, missing words, or punctuation. Most of the mistakes and errors will be capital
letters and missing full stops.
What will be written on the work sheet:
Will you help me correct this piece of narrative?

Use your mind to re-write the narrative again put full stops, finger spaces, and capital letters.

Independent Experience (core group activity 1)


Time: 20 - 25
Small Group

- This group will work individually, they can help each other or ask me for help.
- I will supervise their work, and I will observe them as they work.
- They will correct spelling mistakes, and they will add punctuation to the text., Connectives,
and adjectives
What will be written on the work sheet:
Will you help me correct this piece of narrative?

Use your mind to re-write the narrative again add adjectives, punctuation, and connectives

Independent Experience (challenge group activity 1)


- This group will work alone, I will supervise them, and I will observe as they work.
- They will correct spelling mistakes, and either erase or add connectives. Also, they will add
missing punctuation, Adjectives, and verbs
What will be written on the work sheet:
Will you help me correct this piece of narrative?
Use your mind to re-write the narrative again, correct the spelling mistakes and use VCOP to add
connectives, adjectives, and verbs.

Closing
Time: 10- 15 mins

To finish the activity, I will ask all students to stop working, and come gather again around the

carpet.
I will ask them about the activity and who finished it, then I will choose two students to share
what they did with whole class.
At the end I will choose 3 students to get their happy faces.
Assessment:
I will observe the student’s while they work. (formative assessment)
