Program Goals

Technology
The physical education program will provide the learner with the opportunity to integrate their
personal devices into fostering lifelong wellness skills and habits such as developing individual
exercise and nutrition plans, creating, tracking, and assessing wellness goals, and using
appropriate resources to expand their repertoire for possible activities.
Sciences
The physical education program will provide the learner with opportunities to expand their
knowledge of natural science and apply that knowledge to developing a rich and meaningful
understanding of the five components of fitness, the principles behind safe and effective
exercises for cardiovascular health and strength, and the effects that various types of food and
diets have on a developing body.
Interdisciplinary
The physical education program will integrate the common core through recognizing and
emphasizing the interconnected nature of a well-rounded education. The learners will be exposed
to the integration of scientific research methods, English language arts, and critical thinking to
distinguish facts, reason judgement based on research findings, and speculation in text and
develop a literacy of nutrition and wellness terminology that will allow them to critically
consider any number for future health related texts they may read.

Innovative activities
The physical education program will provide the learner with an opportunity to experience a
variety of non-traditional activities that develop motor function and manipulative skills at an
appropriate level in team and individual physical activities while also encouraging learners to
identify new ways to increase physical activity in their normal daily activities and participate in
moderate to vigorous physical activity for at least 4 days each week.

Global Citizenship
The physical education program will provide the learner a model of global citizenship that allows
them to analyze and derive meaning from the distinct traditions and physical activities of various
cultures and develop an awareness and appreciation of differences and likenesses of countries
around the globe.
Introspection/Self Concept
The physical education program will provide the learner with challenging and successful
experiences that foster an understanding of the importance of positive body image, personal
physical limitations due to injury or illness, and ways to improve the self through regular
reflection and meditation.

Customized fitness
The physical education program will provide the learner the tools and resources to assess their
personal fitness level, develop an individual, research-based fitness plan to achieve a specific
fitness related goal, implement the plan, assess the results, and revise the plan according to those
results.

Development of Personal and Social Responsibility

The physical education program will provide the learner with opportunities to develop social
skills that are adequate to navigate accepting the roles of their group members in the context of a
game and activity, respecting differences in skill level and being supportive and inclusive to all
individuals, and behaving in an appreciative and respectful way with game officials, game
outcomes, and fellow participants.
