Reflection from prior lesson:


Students were introduced to people from the American Revolution, but we did not go in depth with
them. Students pointed out who they knew and what they knew about them.

Lesson Objectives:
I can name important people during the American Revolution and explain why they were important.

Materials Needed:
Comic book
Graphic Organizer
iPads

Class is at the end of the day.
Half the class loves Social Studies, the other half does not
6 students work well in groups
8 students prefer individual work

A. The Lesson

1. Introduction (5 minutes)
• getting attention
• relating to past experience and/or knowledge
• creating a need to know
• sharing objective, in general terms
Hello class today I am going to read a comic book called, Revolution. It is by me and it
highlights important people in the American Revolution. Yesterday we discussed a little bit
about important people in the revolution and what they did. This book will cover some of those
people. We are learning this because we need to know important people in our country and what
impact they had on our country. I learning objective today is I can name important people during
the American Revolution and explain why they were important.

2. Content Delivery (40 minutes)


I will read the book and then students will fill our a graphic organizer of important people in the
American Revolution. Students will put characteristics of the people and what impact they had
on the American Revolution.

3. Closure (10 minutes)


Today we learned about the American Revolution and what they did in the American
Revolution. We will now pair up in teams and take a kahoot quiz to test our understanding of
important people in the American Revolution.

B. Assessments Used
Kahoot will be used at the end of the comic. Students will be given a phrase or word that
describes a person in the revolution and students will click on the correct answer. I will also be
walking around the room while they fill out graphic organizers.

C. Differentiated Instruction
Students will be working in groups during the kahoot quiz for those who are slower and for
collaboration.
I will walk around and support students while they work on their graphic organizers and help
them generate ideas or get started.
