ABSTRACT

In the investigation carried out in the “Hortensia Vasquez S.” Educational Unit, in Santo Domingo city,
it was possible to identify incidences that adolescents have in the use of social networks, analysing the
importance of strengthening the psychosocial abilities. For this, a detailed study was carried out of the
psychosocial abilities such as self-esteem, emotional competences, conflict resolution, assertive
communication, empathy and likewise, the use of social networks was studied, in positive aspects such
as netiquette, and privacy, and in others instead; negative ones such as grooming, cyber-bullying,
sexting and techno-addictions terms not very well known in the educative and social sphere, but that
have had an immeasurable effect on many digital users, especially the youngsters. A field research was
carried out with a population of 40 students, using a survey. The results demonstrated the importance
of the afore mentioned themes. A quantitative-qualitative focus was used, due to the fact that the
project has a main objective to strengthen the psychosocial abilities of the students for an appropriate
use of social networks. Lastly, a proposal was developed with a program of activities with workshops,
an awareness campaign and a dramatization carried out by the students of the educative institution.
