PARTS OF SPEECH

A part of speech (also known as word class) is any of the grammatical groups into
which words are divided depending on their use; for example as a noun, pronoun, verb,
adjective, adverb, conjunction, preposition, and interjection.
The followings are the different parts of speech in English grammar:

Noun A word that refers to:
person Mr. John, Mrs. Smith, etc.
place Jakarta, London, New York, etc.
thing tree, nuts, leaf, fruits, coffee, etc.
substance water, phosphor, air, etc.
quantity some papers, a cup of coffee, etc.
Adjective A word that modifies a noun or big, boring, red, purple, obvious,
pronoun. silvery, etc.
Adverb A word which describes or gives cheerfully, hopefully, spotlessly,
more information about a verb, carefully, etc.
adjective, adverb or phrase.
Conjunction A word that connects words, and, but, while, although, because,
phrases and clauses in a or, etc.
sentence.
Preposition A word which is used before a in, on, down, above, under, at, etc.
noun, a noun phrase or a
pronoun; connecting it to
another word.
Pronoun A word which is used instead of Subjective Pronouns: I, you, they,
a noun or a noun phrase. we, she, he, it.
Objective Pronouns: me, you,
them, us, her, him, it.
Possessive Pronouns: mine, yours,
theirs, ours, hers, his, its.
Verb A word or phrase that describes run, keep, plant, expect, expand,
an action, condition or spray, etc.

Interjection A word that is used to show a Wow!, Great!, Yes!, Hey!, etc.
short sudden expression of
emotion.
