the Mac version. Keyboard operations are described Windows version Mac version

1.Introduction
Playlist Editor is a convenient tool that lets you manage lists of songs (playlists) for playback by SMF/Audio File Player. You
can efficiently manage song lists (playlists) for each of your live performances, the order of the songs, and the volume balance
of each song.

The Playlist Editor can handle up to a maximum of 999 songs and playlists.

To use a playlist with your instrument, follow the procedure below.


* In this document, "instrument" refers to a Roland product that has player functionality.
1. On your computer, collect the songs you want to use. 3. Copy the playlists and songs from your computer to

3.Basic operation 1 — Creating a playlist —

3-1.Collect songs on your computer


Here’s how to add a song from your computer’s hard disk or from a CD-ROM.

By “song” we mean an audio file or SMF.

1 From the menu, click [File]-[Add Song].

You can also add a song by pressing the [Add Song] button located at the bottom of the main window.

2 Select the source from which you want to load a song file.

3 Select the desired song.


The song will be added to the Playlist Library.

You can also load a song by dragging and dropping it from Explorer (Windows) or Finder (Mac) into a vacant area of
the playlist list.

3-2.Select the songs you want to play, and create a playlist

1 Select a song in the song list.

2 From the menu, choose [Edit]-[New Playlist From Selection].

You can also create a playlist by pressing the [New Playlist From Selection] button located at the bottom of the main
window.

A new playlist containing the selected songs will be created, and added to the list of playlists.

3-3.Changing the order of the songs


Here’s how to change the order of the songs in a playlist.

1 In the playlist list, select the playlist whose songs you want to reorder.

2 In the song list, select a song whose order you want to change.

3 Drag and drop the song at the desired location.

3-4.Transfer the playlists and songs to USB memory


You can transfer playlists and songs from your computer to USB memory.
All playlists and songs will be transferred.

Please use USB memory sold by Roland. If you use any other USB memory, operation of Playlist Editor is not
guaranteed.

1 Connect the USB memory to your computer.

2 Click the [Drive Selection] button, and then select the connected USB memory from the list of drives.

3 Click the [Transfer to USB Memory] button, located in the upper-left part of the main window.

You can also perform the transfer by choosing [Tool]-[Transfer to USB memory] from the menu.

3-5.Disconnecting USB memory

Do not disconnect the USB memory from your computer while data is being transferred to USB memory.

Windows:

1 Right-click the icon in the task tray, and choose Safely Remove Hardware.

2 Select the USB device to be removed, and click [Stop].

3 When the confirmation message appears, disconnect the USB memory.

Mac:

1 Drag the USB memory icon into the trash in the dock.

2 Make sure that the trash icon has changed to the remove icon, then release the mouse button.

3 Make sure that the USB memory icon has disappeared from the desktop, then disconnect the USB memory.

4.Basic operation 2 — Editing a playlist —

4-1.Transfer the playlist from USB memory to your computer


You can transfer playlists and songs from USB memory to your computer.
All playlists and songs in USB memory will be transferred.

Please use USB memory sold by Roland. If you use any other USB memory, operation of Playlist Editor is not
guaranteed.

1 Connect the USB memory to your computer.

2 Click the [Drive Selection] button, and then select the connected USB memory from the list of drives.

3 In the upper-left part of the main window, select [USB MEMORY].

4 In the upper-left part of the main window, click the [Transfer to Computer] button.

You can also transfer the files by selecting the menu command [Tool]-[Transfer to Computer].

4-2.Renaming a playlist
Here’s how to rename a playlist.

You can use single-byte alphanumeric characters.

1 Click the playlist that you want to rename.

2 From the menu, choose [Edit]-[Rename Playlist].

You can also press your computer’s Enter key to rename the playlist.

3 Type the new name.

4 Press the Enter key to finalize the name.


If you decide to cancel without renaming, press the Esc key.

4-3.Deleting a playlist
Here’s how to delete an unwanted playlist.

A playlist you’ve deleted cannot be recovered; use this operation with caution.

1 Click the playlist that you want to delete.

2 From the menu, choose [Edit]-[Delete Playlist].

You can also press your computer’s Delete key to delete the playlist.

3 When the confirmation message appears, click [OK] to delete the playlist.
If you decide not to delete it, click [Cancel].

4-4.Renaming a song title


Here’s how to rename a song title.

You can use single-byte alphanumeric characters.

1 Click the song that you want to rename.

2 Press your computer’s Enter key to open the Song Information window.

3 Click the TITLE field.

4 Type the new name, and click [OK].


If you decide not to rename the song, click [CANCEL].

4-5.Deleting a song
Here’s how to delete an unwanted song.

When deleting songs, the object(s) targeted for deletion differs depending on the playlist you select.
• If you select “Playlist Library”:
The selected song will be deleted from all playlists.
• If you select a playlist other than “Playlist Library”:
The song will be deleted only from the selected playlist.

If you select “Playlist Library,” the song you’ve specified and the song file are completely deleted from this Playlist
Editor. A song and the song file you’ve deleted cannot be recovered; use this operation with caution.

1 Click the song that you want to delete.

Press your computer’s Delete key.

3 When the confirmation message appears, click [OK] to delete the song.
If you decide not to delete the song, click [Cancel].

A confirmation message will appear only if you select “Playlist Library” and delete a song.
If you delete a song from a playlist other than “Playlist Library,” the song will be deleted as soon as you press the
Delete key.

4-6.Adjusting the volume of a song


You can adjust the volume of each song.

1 In the song list, click the song whose volume you want to change.

2 From the menu, choose [File]-[Song Information] to open the Song Information window.

3 In the lower left of the Song Information window, click and drag the LEVEL ADJUST knob.
The volume will be changed.

When auditioning a song, the playback volume will not change.

In the upper left of the main window, click the [COMPUTER] button to view the contents of Playlist Library and
playlists on your computer.

In the upper left of the main window, click the [USB MEMORY] button to view the contents of Playlist Library
and playlists on USB memory.

5-2.Previewing a song
If music playback software is installed on your computer, you can preview a desired song.

1 Click the song that you want to listen to.

2 Click the [Preview] button located at the bottom of the main window.
Your music playback software will start up, and you can listen to the selected song.

You can also audition a desired song by double-clicking it.

5-3.Creating an empty playlist

1 From the menu, choose [Edit]-[New Playlist].


An empty playlist will be created.

5-4.Transferring only selected songs to USB memory


If you don’t have enough space on your USB memory, you can transfer only the selected songs.

You can check the capacity of the USB memory.


From the menu, select [Tool]-[Setup] to access the Setup window. [CAPACITY] will indicate the memory usage status.

1 Select a playlist from the playlist list.

2 For the songs you want to transfer, turn the [FILE TRANSFER] checkbox on.

3 Click the [Transfer to USB Memory] button, located in the upper-left part of the main window.
Only the selected songs will be transferred to USB memory.

*Songs whose [FILE TRANSFER] checkbox is off will not be transferred to USB memory.

5-5.Synchronizing the contents of USB memory with the contents of your computer
When transferring from your computer to USB memory, you can delete unused songs from USB memory so that the
contents of USB memory match the contents of your computer.

1 From the menu, click [Tool]-[Setup] to open the Setup window.

2 Select (turn on) the [CLEAN UNUSED SONGS] check box.

3 Click the [Transfer to USB Memory] button, located in the upper-left part of the main window.
All playlists and songs will be transferred to the now-empty USB memory.

5-6.Specifying the location where playlists and songs will be saved


Here’s how to specify the folder in which playlists and songs will be saved.

1 From the menu, choose [Tool]-[Setup] to open the Setup window.

2 Click the Browse button.

3 Select the desired save-destination folder and click [OK].

5-7.Viewing playlist or song information


To view playlist information:
From the menu, choose [Edit]-[Playlist Information] to open the Playlist Information window.

To view song information:


From the menu, choose [File]-[Song Information] to open the Song Information window.

You can store and view a variety of information, including the title, composer, part levels, and comments.
For details concerning the displayed information, refer to the Owner’s Manual of the instrument you use.

5-8.Printing a playlist
You can view and print an edited playlist from your Web browser.

1 From the menu, choose [Edit]-[Export Playlist].


Your Web browser will start up.

2 From your Web browser’s menu, choose [File]-[Print].


The playlist will be printed.
