Domains and Kingdoms Spring Break Project

Taxonomy is the science of classifying organisms based on their characteristics. The scientist Carolus
Linneaus developed the modern method of classification, which organized living things into a series of groups
based on their similarities and evolutionary relationships. Every living thing is classified using the following
system:
Domain -> Kingdom -> Phylum -> Class -> Order -> Family -> Genus ->Species
Most General Most Specific

For this project, you will focus on the first two levels of classification: Domain and Kingdom.
Every living thing is a member of one of the three Domains, and one of the six Kingdoms of life.
Domain Domain Domain Eukarya
Bacteria Archaea

Kingdom Kingdom Kingdom Kingdom Kingdom Kingdom

Eubacteria Archaebacteria Protista Fungi Plantae Animalia
You will be researching the Six Kingdoms and creating a poster/book that compares the major traits of each.
Use the following resources to find your information (you may use additional sources if you need to):

You may create either a poster or a book with 1 page for each kingdom. It can be handmade or digital, but
digital copies must be submitted on google classroom. Make your project neat, colorful and easy to
understand. On your poster/book you will need to include the following information for each of the six kingdoms
(each Kingdom is worth 15 points total):

10 points- Poster/Book is neat and colorful, has an appropriate title and is clear and easy to understand.

Domain: (Bacteria, Archaea, Eukarya) 1 point

Cell type: (Prokaryote or Eukaryote) 1 point
Cell Wall Component: (Peptidoglycan, Not-peptidoglycan, Cellulose, Chitin or No cell wall) 2 points
Number of Cells: (Uni or Multi) 2 points
Mode of Nutrition: (Autotroph, Heterotroph, Decomposer, Chemoautotroph. You can have more than one
here) 2 points
Movement: (Motile (explain how) or Non-Motile) 2 points
Examples:(Include at least 3 examples for each kingdom, with pictures. For kingdoms with a lot of variety,
choose examples that are very different) 1 point each (3 total)
Weird/Cool Fact:(Give one interesting thing you learned about this kingdom that you haven’t already covered)
2 points

This project will be due the first day back from spring break- There will be quiz over this information!
