Aircon DC (via ACS)
The following diagram illustrates the connection method using the ACS to switch Aircon DC

AC Aircon conventional sites

Using the Aircon Controller to switch the incoming power AC on conventional sites the following connection diagram
should be followed. The ACS would intelligently control the activation and de-activation of single or multiple air conditioner
units, based upon the monitored shelter temperatures. (Up to four air conditioner units could be controlled)
Should the mains supply voltage drop below a pre-defined threshold (220Vac-15% = 187Vac), the ACS would cut the mains
supply voltage to the air conditioners as a protective measure, with an associated alarm indication.
The Air Conditioner Control Switch could be used to drive any of the following air conditioning types:
» Single phase (1-port) unit for driving a single air conditioning unit up to 24 000 BTU
» Single phase (2-port) unit for driving 2 independent air conditioning units up to 24 000 BTU
» Single phase (3-port) unit for driving 3 independent air conditioning units up to 24 000 BTU
» Three phase (2-port) unit for driving up to 2 independent air conditioning units of up to 50 000 BTU (bigger switching
capacity rated ACS units available subject to switching contactors used)

AC DB BOX

SAM2V3 IHS Nigeria v1 25

The following connections needs to be done on the air conditioner control switch:
A – ACS control cable from SAM2 RMS03 controller.
B – Mains Input (Live and Neutral) connection for AC1.
C – Mains Input (Live and Neutral) connection for AC2.
D – Mains Input (Earth) connection for AC1.
E – Mains Input (Earth) connection for AC2.
F – Mains control output for AC1 via industrial 3-pin socket.
G – Mains control output for AC2 via industrial 3-pin socket.
(AC1 is located on the left side and AC2 is located on the right side)
Note:
» AC1 is activated by default (failsafe), should the ACS control cable from the SAM2 RMS03 be unplugged or the
DC supply voltage to the SAM2 RMS03 switched off.
» A single ACS cable is used to control up to three air condition units in a normal cyclic or piggy back application.
• Cyclic – each air conditioner runs for the pre-defined configurable time period before swapping to the standby
unit. (during a configurable high temperature setting, two air conditioners run simultaneously)

6.2 AC Monitor EMU

The utility grid meter is used to monitor and verify the utility AC mains grid and/or generator supply to site.
In some network deployment scenarios it might be necessary to monitor the distributed AC load current to multiple
tenant sites (AC load consumed by shared operators), thus the need for the Equipment Mains Monitoring Unit (EMU).

SAM2V3 IHS Nigeria v1 31

The EMU module is used by connecting it to the SAM2 RMS03 controller through a serial RS485 port. Up to three EMU
modules can be connected to the SAM2 RMS03 controller via a common serial RS485 which connects to 4 way
connector J on the CTL board with the following added monitoring capabilities on a per module basis:

» 6x current inputs, via 0-50A Current

Transformers (CT’s) – Provision up to two 3-
phase tenants or six single phase tenants).
» 1x 3-phase AC Mains supply input – Tenant
distributed
mains supply voltage.
1x Alarm output – AC Mains low voltage alarm
Installation Steps:
» Connect the tenant current transformers around the particular AC load supply input to of the rectifier
» The current transformers are factory terminated on a
650mm wiring harness (CT1-3, cable harness 1
and CT46, cable harness 2). Make sure to
connect the correct cable harness to the
appropriate EMU monitoring input.
» The tenants AC Mains 3-Phase supply voltage
monitoring is an integral part of the EMU module.
The AC mains supply voltage feeding the EMU
module is constantly being monitored, with a
voltage range from 140-260Vac
» A low voltage alarm output (default 187Vac) could
optionally be wired to any of the SAM2 RMS03
controller spare inputs. The alarm threshold is
configurable using the SAM2 RMS03 craft
terminal software application
(SAM2 RMS03 ECT) and is activated if any one of the monitored phases drops below this setpoint.

SAM2V3 IHS Nigeria Product Manual V1 32

» Connect the EMU module to the SAM2 RMS03 cable termination unit +P (blue), GD (orange/white) and –N
(blue/white) +P refers to positive RS485 signal, GD to supply ground connection and –N to negative RS485 signal.
Note:
» Before powering the EMU module ensure that all wiring connections have been completed
(Serial connection to SAM2 RMS03 controller, CT sensors, mains supply voltage)

Once powered, the EMU power/communications LED should flash each time interrogated by the SAM2 RMS03
controller, indicating communications.

» Once communications are established with the SAM2 RMS03 controller, use the ECT terminal software to verify
that the CT’s indicates a load current reading (on a per tenant basis) and AC mains supply within range.

» Fault finding:
• Should no load current values be displayed, refer to CT sensor cable harness connections.
• Confirm AC mains voltage on all phases.
• If no communications established with SAM2 RMS03 controller confirm serial connection cable wired polarities

Method of operation
The RMS unit will force the generator panel into auto mode via the reset command which will active 2 seconds before the start
pulse, the RMS unit is switching 12Vdc through to power on the relays 2K1 and 2K2 which will switch the panel to auto mode
and initiate a start solenoid to engage.
In order for the relays 2K1 and 2K2 to activate, a ground connection must be connected to the relay coil, therefore loop a wire
from –Ve to terminal position 301.
During Automode the RMS has complete control over the generator and no external signals will be able to change it out of this
mode Ensure that the generator start pulse is set to 120 seconds (2min), which will also result in the generator cool down
period being 120 seconds (2min)
