Course Policies
1. Attendance and Participation (10%)
• Attendance
o Regular class attendance and active participation are crucial to language learning. Daily
attendance and participation will be recorded. You are expected to attend every class
and arrive on time. Poor attendance, frequent lateness and early departure will affect
one’s grade. More than six absences will result in a failing grade. If you miss more than
three classes, your final grade will be lowered by one sign (e.g., A- à B+). For each
subsequent absence, your final grade will be lowered an additional sign. Three late
arrivals equal one absence. There is no excused absence. You are responsible for all
material and work covered on days that you are absent.
o For further information regarding attendance, consult the official College webpage on
Policies Governing Class Attendance.
• Participation
o In language courses, daily preparation and active participation are crucial to your
success in class. It also includes how much you improve throughout the semester. Thus,
your participation grade is based on your preparation for and active engagement in
class activities and discussions as well as use of Korean.
o Laptops, tablet computers and cellular phones are allowed only for class activities.
The use of these devices without the instructor’s permission will negatively affect your
participation grade.

2. Homework (20%)
• Homework assignments must be completed and turned in to the instructor before class
begins.
• Late homework will be accepted with a 20 % deduction for a one day delay and 40 %
deduction for a two-day delay. A 20% deduction will be applied even if you submit your
homework right after class. No late homework will be accepted three days after the due
date.

3. Vocabulary and Lesson Quizzes (30%)
• Vocabulary Quizzes (10 points, 10%): Vocabulary quizzes will cover new expressions and
vocabulary items for the given chapter noted in class. You may drop one lowest score.
• Lesson Quizzes (25 points, 20%): Weekly Tests typically encompass all the materials
covered in the assigned chapters, such as vocabulary, grammar, listening, reading, and
writing. You may drop one lowest score.
• If you miss a lesson quiz or a vocabulary quiz, you will receive a 0. If you miss a test under
special circumstances, you must provide official documentation to take a make-up test. A
deduction of 10% will be applied if the exception is accepted. If you have missed a
lesson quiz or vocabulary quiz, you will need to drop that quiz grade.

4. Oral Presentation (15%)
• Presentation (10%): You will work on creating your own narratives using digital
publishing platform. A detailed guideline for the oral presentation will be announced later.
• Oral Interview (5%): The oral interview will be held on the last day of class as a one-on-
one interview and role-plays. A detailed guideline for the oral interview will be announced
later.
