Narrative Richard F. Wessel Jr. was taken into custody by Drug Investigators from the Potsdam
Police Department following a long term investigation into the theft of prescription
medication from patients occurring at the Office of Doctor Wessel located at the
Canton-Potsdam Hospital Lawrence Avenue Campus. When taken into custody,
Wessel was found to be in possession of 118 Hydrocodone-Acetaminophen pills for
which he was not prescribed. Wessel was charged with five counts of Petit Larceny
and one count of Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance 7 th Degree and
released on appearance tickets returnable to the Town of Potsdam Court on
04/11/2018. Also assisting were Investigators from the New York State Office of the
Attorney General Medicade Fraud Control Unit. The investigation is ongoing and
further charges are pending.
