Scenario

Media products have become an essential part of life and there is a constant need for people to
work in the media industry to support the high demands for media content. The industry is fast
paced with the TV and Film sectors in particular going through a range of technological, financial,
commercial and aesthetic changes in recent years.

There are a variety of job opportunities within the TV and Film industries. In preparation for your
intended career, you are required to research possible job roles that you would like to be employed
in upon completing your course. For each role you should gather information regarding the skills,
qualifications and experience needed to obtain the position. You should upload the following tasks
to your ‘Weebly’ website using the tab ‘Career Development’.

Tasks

Task 1: Employment, skills and professionalism (P4, M4, D4) 600 words minimum
This task will enable you to meet Learning Outcome 4

In order to begin preparing for entry into the workplace, you are required to complete a report
which explores three different job roles in the film and media industries. You must select one job
role from each of the following three areas:
MANAGEMENT (Producer, Commissioning Executive etc...)
CREATIVE (Director, Scriptwriter etc...)
TECHNICAL (Camera Operator, Sound Engineer etc...)
For each job role you should explore the following areas:

 Job Description – What the role entails, responsibilities and any specific duties. Are they in
charge of people? Who do they report to? If you can find out also include HOW MUCH this
job role is likely to pay. How does it fit into the wider sector?
 Working Patterns – Freelance or contracted? Where and when would this person be likely
to work? (on set working odd shifts or in an office working 9-5?). How regular would their
work be ((i.e. shift work; fixed term; office hours; freelance; irregular pattern; hourly rates;
piece work)?
 Pros, Cons and Required Skills/Qualifications - briefly outline the benefits and
drawbacks of this role as you see them AND explain what experience, skills or qualifications
you might need to get this job
 Professional behaviour – How would you need to present yourself in this role in terms of
attendance and punctuality? What contributions would you need to make to team projects?
What communication skills would you require and what would be your personal
responsibility within the role?
 A Brief Reflection on your current and future Skills approx. 200 words - explore the
skills, experiences and qualifications you currently have and those you will need to develop
in order to match the job role you are most interested in pursuing

Task 2: Personal career development (P5, M5, D5)

This task will enable you to meet Learning Outcome 5

This task requires you to prepare a range of materials to aid you in finding and securing work in the

technical and personal skills and qualifications you have that would support your application
2. A CV (you will be provided with guidance for this)

produced for your Photography unit (Unit 57). You could also include any work you have
