REHAB Basel
Our hospital specialises in the rehabilitation and treatment of people
with paraplegia and/or brain injuries and patients with related disor-
ders.
We have 90 beds. Following the inpatient phase of treatment, our
patients are free to use the outpatient area or the adjoining day clinic.
New living concepts
Our holistic approach to rehabilitation and treatment aims to ensure
those severely affected achieve the greatest possible level of inde-
pendence and optimal quality of life. Our team develops new living
concepts with patients and their relatives and devises individual solu-
tions appropriate for them. Teams of experts covering a range of pro-
fessions are available to address specific issues and provide clarifica-
tion, advice, and therapy. We also arrange special surgeries so we
can address complex issues in a targeted manner.
Pleasant atmosphere
Our homely building is made of wood and radiates a sense of
warmth. Its ten inner courtyards ensure the rooms are flooded with
light. And the green surroundings, including the therapeutic garden
with its collection of animals, provide an opportunity to relax and
let time drift by.
Collaborative initiatives
In addition to the diverse range of consultative services we have
been using for many years now, we also have access to a wide net-
work of collaborative partners. Our most important partner is Basel
University Hospital, with whom we have agreements to collaborate in
the following areas: neurosurgery, spinal surgery, neurology (including
MS and ALS), infectology and hygiene, oncology, and pulmonology.
Other collaborative agreements exist with Basel University Children’s
Hospital, Bethesda Hospital Basel, Merian Iselin Hospital Basel,
and the cantonal hospitals for the canton of Jura.
Our patients
We mainly treat and rehabilitate patients with paraplegia
and /or brain injuries following an accident or illness – as inpa-
tients, in the day clinic, or as outpatients.
On our monitoring ward we offer both acute medical treatment
and rehabilitation measures in tandem, an approach which
allows us to start rehabilitation as early as possible and avoid
extending hospital stays by interrupting treatment.
We have a specialist ward where we care for people in a coma-
tose or vegetative state. A team trained in such cases provides
these patients with optimal and individually tailored support
and therapy.
Patients with complications associated with paraplegia or brain
injuries, such as decubitus ulcers, neuro-urological problems,
or deterioration in neurological performance, are treated by
specially trained personnel.
At REHAB Basel we also treat patients with symptoms similar to
those which occur with paraplegia or brain injuries, such as
cerebral palsy, multiple sclerosis, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis,
and the like.

therapy concepts, as well as by many years of in-depth experience,
a sense of respect, and collaboration between different professions.
A broad-based team is on hand to help our patients on their individual
journey back to some kind of everyday routine. We take account of
patients’ particular family and social circumstances from the very outset.

ergotherapy, speech therapy, neuropsychology and psychology service,
recreation therapy, creative therapies, hippotherapy, animal-based thera-
py, dietary advice, central investigation facility, clinical diagnostics, advice
on social and legal issues, practice for living outside the clinic, outpatient
area, day clinic

neuro-orthopaedics. Further specialist areas are covered by the consul-
tancy service at Basel University Hospital or specialists in private practice.
