There is a theme in what I have been able to learn from this course's first unit, even if it is not

explicitly mentioned, I believe it is the logical conclusion: Teaching materials are bound by the
context in which they are designed a teacher's culture and how a teacher plans to used them.

I believe authentic teaching materials are deeply linked to lesson planning not just because it parts
of a good teacher's practice, but because without it, the effects and advantages or disadvantages
from a specific material can't be fully taken advantage of by the educator.

Using real life posters, brochures, tickets, real life conversations, videos from actual situations has
to be over the level of a starters class but if throughly planned by the educator, establishing the
language goals for the planned activity, adaptations can make the desired language goal achivable.

In one of the reference text an example of a complementary questionnaire designed by the teacher
to be used with the authentic materials set the way in which an EFL teacher must manage the use of
such materials.

On the topic of culture learning, I believe that, in order to have proficiency in a language, a teacher
has to set the communication tasks in a definied cultural context so the students can first compare
between their own cultures and the one taught in English, then understand it and finally accept it.

Using authentic materials has many pros and some con, as mentioned in the las paragraph learning a
country and countries culture can facilitate language adquisitions specially if the cultural laguage
between the two meeting cultures. History has an important part in what a language teacher can
consider as culture learning about it allows to answer questions about voabulary, grammar, phrases
and idioms.

Learning about and assimilating a culture opens many oportunities for a student to adquire other
kinds of knowledge, mainly practical, like how to ask for directions, ordering food or answering
questions on an airport. An interesting side effect is how a different culture can give people
perspective on their own values and traditions and choose whatever is best for them.

Not everything is good about culture adquisition, with it comes also what can I only call alination,
specially if the relationship between the students and their new cultural knowledge is strong enough
to clash with its countries own beliefs, such would be the example, I imagine, between the
American and Arabic culture. Teachers have to always be mindful of what they teaches or they have
the risk to be disrespectful and obstruct a students learning process.
