Post-Production Diary 2

Date – 23/11/17

Within our second day of

editing, our main aim was to
add re-filmed footage into the
timeline and refine any
previously overlooked aspects.
As is evidenced within the
screenshot, we placed the
footage over the pinked areas
(marked in our previous editing
session as shots we would re-
film and replace). I am confident
that making these changes have
significantly improved the
quality of our production, and
am pleased that we were able to work quickly and effectively to make them.

We did, however, decide that the audiovisual relationship within our video was not strong enough,
and so chose to implement more cuts which would fit the beat of the music. Within this, my role
was to watch the video and mark any areas where this could be achieved, then assist another
team member in making these changes (i.e we increased the number of jump cuts in areas where
the music was of a faster pace, allowing the video and audio to complement one another more
closely).

We further decided to highlight the scene in which one of our characters leaves, making this a
more fundamental moment within the narrative. In order to do so, we added a fade to black
transition, and then further added warp stabilizer to a number of shots in order to ensure the
construction of verisimilitude. Our final act of retouching was to scale a number of shots, as I had
decided that our production did not sufficiently vary the shot distances used, and could have
benefitted from a larger number of close up shots.

Overall, I am very pleased with this day of editing. I think that both larger and smaller changes
have contributed to an overall increase in our production quality, and feel as though we have been
left with a nearly entirely completed product.
