A recent statewide survey of 2018 Democratic Primary voters in New Mexico1 shows Con-
gresswoman Michelle Lujan Grisham with a commanding lead in the primary contest for gover-
nor this June. Lujan Grisham’s record of fighting for New Mexico resonates with Democratic
Primary voters, providing her with advantages in name identification and favorability.
Fully 93 percent of primary voters can identify Lujan Grisham; she enjoys strong 70 – 14 per-
cent favorable-unfavorable ratings. In contrast, 59 percent of voters identify Jeff Apodaca (21 -
14 percent favorable-unfavorable ratings) and 40 percent of voters identify State Senator Joe
Cervantes (15 - 11 percent favorable-unfavorable ratings).
In the primary election for governor, Lujan Grisham stands well ahead among the field of candi-
dates, garnering 72 percent of the vote. Apodaca receives 13 percent, Cervantes gets 6 per-
cent, Peter DeBenedettis receives 2 percent, and 6 percent are undecided.
