My name is Intan Elvira, and I am on my fourth year studying on Environmental Geography Major

at Universitas Gadjah Mada. I would like to participate on this exchange program on Nagoya University. I
have started to look for where to go on an exchange program since I was a freshman. Like a wise man said
“Studying abroad offers valuable experience with the customs and behaviors that open doors”. Japan and
earth-science are the two remarkable things that will always successfully captivate myself. Japanese culture
intriguingly merges contrasting elements for a harmonious society in which the old and the new seamlessly
blend together. What make Japan become one of the greatest countries in the world are the science and its
strength to uphold their culture. I would like to explore deeper both its science and culture so that I could
either really gain myself into wider knowledge and hopefully I could encourage my peers too.

Japan is acclaimed as the world’s top research-based education and home for many sophisticated
technologies. It serves a formidable higher educational system with a commitment to research and
development stands behind it. Japan boasts Asia’s highest number of Nobel-prize winners thanks to its
extraordinary academic tradition. With measures based on everything from teaching and research to
knowledge transfer and international outlook, Japan’s dominance as a higher education power is well-
known. Indeed, Nagoya University has its own particular role to convince the world that Japan is the best
place to study and also provide the best place to embrace with either the native or the whole-globe students.
Nagoya University is one of the leading university in Japan, I believe that the school has the high standard
of research and has been proven by the university’s track record of nurturing high- level researcher. Nagoya
University has special part on my grown-up list. Since Nagoya University is a comprehensive research
university with a student body comprising ambitious young people from diverse cultural backgrounds, I
believe that this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity is a wonderful promise for those who are pursuing studies
in a wide variety of fields.

Since I am particularly interested on the field of envrionmental - studies, course that NUPACE
program has offered is appeal so promises for me. Japan is home to some of the world's most breathtaking
natural terrain – four seasons out of the year. It is sort of a good news for an earth-science student like me.
More diverse it would be, the more diverse insight I could have gain. In fact, I am beyond than just excited
to learn about Japanase culture, and the best part if I could have the chance is I could learn Japanese culture
together with other foreigner all over the world. I wonder such this exchange program in Nagoya University
would endow myself to forge the beyond – borders – friendships through this internationalise exchange
programs. Also this program allows myself either to link with the professors or to recognize which
laboratory I should sign up for. Considering that I am not satisfied enough to have bachelor degree, I intend
to deepen my academic knowledge about earth-science by pursuing my Master degree as soon after my
bachelor’s graduation, instead. If I could have the opportunity toward this remarkable program in Nagoya
University, I am not simply desiring to learn about the culture or trying to enrich my bachelor experience.
In fact, the program would greatly help me to broaden my perspective through study and not just limit to
cultural exchange but much beyond that, but it also about widen my mindset about the Nagoya university-
research-environment, Japanese education system and allows me to engage with the prospective professor
who could advise me during my Master Course soon.

I believe that I am a good candidate for this NUPACE Program. Since through my time studying
in Universitas Gadjah Mada, I had several paper both in social and physics geography. I’ve yielded at least
5 papers during my bachelor study. I also had several project with my professor about the geomorphic
characteristic of sea turtle’s hatching habitat in the southern coastal area of West Java Province, Central
Java Province and Yogyakarta Special Region. From this research paper, I have been awarded as the most
outstanding paper and the most outstanding speaker group on the ISTS 2016 which held in Yogyakarta. I
had also enrich myself experience through my internship at the National Region Sea Conservation Bureau
in Kupang for 1.5 months at the end of 2016. Being involved in some of a volunteerism experience on many
communities in Jogja has shaped the person I am today. Not only trying to do good things for others, but
also going through volunteerism such as being a teacher and making syllabus for Project Child Indonesia’s
school’s have gained a better leadership qualities in my life that could influence others to encourage them
trying to learn and improve some skills plus managing and making the program more effective toward the
teamwork. I almost only had positive experiences during my study at Univesitas Gadjah Mada, so that I
would gladly share that to the people I would meet on exchange program.

Those things are some of my fine points to join this exchange program on Nagoya University.
Therefore I believe that I have a solid foundation, to join this exchange program. I hope it can help me to
develop many kind of knowledge that having my both eyes open if "my world" is not as limited as I thought,
but the real big world is laying even wider than I could imagine before. Now I am on my last-year-study, I
am not only thinking about what I would like to do in the next morning or perhaps next months. Much
beyond of that, my mindset also had been enhance with so many experience. Thinking not only for myself
but also others and trying to contribute to the country from the different way. Indeed, I believe that I am
not only prepared to do so, but in fact I may have already begun and I have confident that I am an excellent
candidate that you are looking for.

I would gladly have the opportunity to meet you and give a further explanation on my motivation.
Thank you for considering my application.
