Introduction:
ITI-TJ100MC-4L combines the functionality of a high end SDH-SONET ADM (Add Drop
Multiplexer) and a low-end entry box for interfacing with DWDM equipment. The product provides a
diverse range of data and circuit interfaces in one of the highest densities in products of its class. Digital
Cross Connect at fine granularity and data switching functionality along with the modular nature of the
interfaces provide carriers with very flexible options for configuring the product in networks. The product
can be configured independently in Mesh, Ring, Linear and Bus architectures and also a mix of the above.
The product can also be flexibly configured with equipment redundancy for all or for a selected few among
the modules. These make the product ideal for backbone and high-speed links. Support for data allows
carriers to combine the functionality of data switching with transport.

Software Intelligence built into the equipment allows for intuitive element management using the
Tejas Element Management System which supports the full suite of FCAPS (Fault, Configuration,
Accounting, Performance and Security) management. TejNMS (Tejas Network Management solution)
provide extremely easy provisioning of circuits across the network using a point and click user interface.
The management system integrates the management of other Tejas Products as well, allowing easy
upgradation and expansion of networks. Standard open interfaces also allow the system to be managed by
third party management systems.

To summarize, along with the Tejas Network Management solution the ITI-TJ100MC-4L as part of the
Tejas TJ100 family provide the following features:

 Easy network manageability

 Flexible Configuration

 Lower cost per line

 Easy upgradeability

 Support for both data and voice over SDH

 Higher reliability

Architectural Details

ITI-TJ100MC-4L has a multi slot chassis / backplane. In the chassis, there are 15 traffic slots meant
for aggregate and tributary cards (Line Cards). Additional slots exist for common cards with optional
redundancy. These Common cards do not carry traffic and serve functions like Power Filtering, Cross
Connect and support of auxiliary interfaces. The line cards can support STM-1/4/16, STM-1e, E1, E3/DS3,
Data interfaces of 10/100 Base T and 100 Base Fx.

The figure below shows the main slots in the ITI-TJ100MC-4L chassis. The horizontal MFC(Multi
Function Card) at the top, Horizontal two Power Filter Cards at the bottom and two vertical Cross Connect
cards are the slots for common cards. The slots for Cross Connect and Power Filter are reproduced to provide
redundancy when needed. Section 3 (System Overview) provides detailed information on the cards and
functions.

Multi-service platform: ITI-TJ100MC-4L support both data and TDM services on the same platform.

Flexibility: Depending on the need of the customer ITI-TJ100MC-4L can be configured in various
topologies supporting both electric and optical interface. The box can be configured as ADM, DXC,
Terminal Multiplexer or Regenerator. The modular tributary and aggregate interfaces allow the user to mix
and match the interfaces as required. The box can be configured in all network configurations: Point to
Point, Mesh, Ring and Bus topologies.

Protection: ITI-TJ100MC-4L provides advanced protection features like 1+1 multiplex section protection
(MSP) sub-network section protection (SNCP) and two fiber MS-SPring.

Reliability: ITI-TJ100MC-4L provides outstanding reliability by providing redundant power supply

unit, Cross Connect card (which includes control and timing), and Hot-swap capacity for all the redundant
cards.

Configuration: ITI-TJ100MC-4L can be configured into a wide range of products. ITI-TJ100MC-1 can be
configured as regenerator (REG), add-drop multiplexers (ADM), digital cross-connect (DXC) and terminal
multiplexers (TMUX).

Tributary supports: ITI-TJ100MC-4L supports a wide range of tributaries, which include E1/DS1,
E3/DS3, E4, STM-1 optical/electrical (o/e), 10/100 Base Tx and 100 Base Fx.

3
Cross-connect capability: ITI-TJ100MC-4L provides powerful cross-connect software configurable at
VC-12 and VC-3/VC-4 granularity.

Dynamic bandwidth allocation: The rate adaptive feature of the Ethernet provided by the support of link
capacity adjustment scheme (LCAS) allows easy control of bandwidth with 2 Mbps granularity for 10/100
Mbps Ethernet. ITI-TJ100MC-4L along with TejNMS allows the dynamic allocation of bandwidth in a
hitless manner as the requirement for traffic grows for the customer.

Mixed deployment support: Support for DCC-M, DCC-R, F1, F2 bytes and E1 channel in payload VC-
12 as options for remote node management enable Tejas products to be managed over third party equipment.
In addition, since Tejas products allow DCC bytes to be passed through transparently when required, third
party equipments using those bytes for remote node management can be managed through Tejas equipments
in the network. Thus it is easy to deploy Tejas equipment along with third part equipment in a network.

Applications
The product can be configured independently in Mesh, Ring, Linear and Bus architectures and also
a mix of the above. It can be used in the core of the network to provide high-speed backbone STM-4 rings
dropping PDH tributaries and STM-1 spurs. This application can be combined with the functionality for
Data switching and transport.

Software:
ITI-TJ100MC-4L can be managed locally using Tejas Network Element Software (TejNES). Also
we can centrally maintain large number of TJ100 nodes using Tejas Network Management Software
(TejNMS).

TejNES

TejNES provide the following key features:

 Switchover to redundant power supply in the event of any hardware fault.

 Auto Recovery after Input Power Failure in a redundant system

 Node-wise Operations & Maintenance

 User programmable severity levels for Alarms

 Node-wise Alarming & Remote Login.

 Performance monitoring as per the standard specifications (G.826).

8
 In-service monitoring of E1 tributaries.

TejNES allows user to configure all the above –mentioned features using a standard Hyper Text
Transfer Protocol (HTTP) based web browser. TejNES makes the physical data connection using the
Ethernet interface in the management interface module in ITI-TJ100MC-4L. TejNES also allows users to
control remote nodes using the web browser interface. For this purpose Tejas uses DCC bytes in the STM-1
frame for carrying the management information to the remote node.

TejNES allows open software interface using the TejNES-SNMP software module.

ITI-TJ100MC-4L comes with a point-and-click provisioning (PNCP) tool. This module enables
customers to provision end-to-end circuits in a network that comprises all Tejas family of SDH products. For
this users can enable node-resident software module TejNES-NODE-PNCP, and the server-resident software
module TejNES-HOST-PNCP.

TejNMS
