Introduction

Usually when you ask a college student how he/she has been, his/her answer would be “tired or
stressed.” Stress is primarily a physical response. When stressed, the body thinks it is under attack and
switches to ‘fight or flight’ mode, releasing a complex mix of hormones and chemicals such as adrenaline,
cortisol and norepinephrine to prepare the body for physical action. This causes a number of reactions,
from blood being diverted to muscles to shutting down unnecessary bodily functions such as digestion.
Stress was the single most common inhibitor on academic performance reported by students. In fact,
stress is inevitable. We usually think of stress as a negative thing but it can actually be a good one.
Occasional stress is an unavoidable part of everyday life. Small amounts of stress can even have a positive
effect, allowing us to push ourselves when we encounter a difficult task. But after a certain point, the
stress hormones rapidly become counterproductive or even dangerous. Excessive and continuous stress
has effects that go beyond mere health commitment. They are linked to increased rates of depression,
anxiety, cardiovascular disease, and other potentially life-threatening issues. This makes it all the more
important to learn how to manage your stress before you suffer any adverse effects. Our company’s
mission is to give every person the power to control their own mental and physical health by capturing
realtime bio-signals and making the data useful and actionable. We introduce to you the Spire Health Tag
to improve one’s mental and physical health conditions.
