Conference Times

1st Grade Update
In the first grade, we just finished our floor
plans of our favorite room, reviewing in the
process all the furniture and appliances of
the home. Students just labeled the
furniture of their rooms and gave their
project a title.
This week, we will be starting a new
thematic unit focusing on healthy foods and
habits. In this unit, we will talk about a lot
about food items and compare our food
preferences with others. As a summative
project, students will write about their
favorite food in an opinion piece.
During the course of the unit, students will
compare and contrast their food
preferences, distinguish fantasy from reality
in stories, retell a story using sequence
words, review how to give commands,
review the types of sentences, and describe
frequency using words such as always,
sometimes, and never.

2nd Grade Update
In the 2nd grade, students are working on
theme of community, focusing on community
places, community workers, locations and
directions. In this unit, we read a fictional
story “The Mystery of the Missing Dog,” and
which introduces community places and
workers. We will especially focus on our
community in Bloomington, as well as its
workers. We will even get a chance to do
some map reading and map making! The final
project will be to make a map of our
neighborhoods.
3rd Grade Update
In Mrs. Alfeo’s 3rd grade social studies class,
we learned a lot about activism, and
specifically Martin Luther King Jr., during
African-American history month. We first
learned about a number of people who did
important things to make our world a better
place. Then, we researched Martin Luther
King Jr. and wrote a paragraph about his
accomplishments, displaying it in a replica of
his likeness. Students got a lot of practice
researching and writing for this end-of-unit
project!
4th Grade Update
In Mrs. Conroy’s social studies class, students
are studying the Civil Rights movement of the
1960s, an amazing history that comes to life
in the book Marching for Freedom. In their
historical investigation, everyone is getting a
lot of practice listening to interviews of those
involved, as well as a lot of practice writing
down their feelings and observations of what
they are learning.
