NURSING UNDERGRADUATE PROGRAM

STIKES MUHAMMADIYAH KLATEN

2016/2017
A. Definition

Applying infusion is giving of medication through a needle or catheter, that drugs are
administered intravenously. Applying infusion is used to deliver and to incerase the fluids
into a patient’s body , and also it used for giving the medication via parenteral. it means the
fluids will be improving and the medication became easier.

Intravenous infusion is a technique used to transcend veins by means of rigid sharp

stilts performed by sterile techniques such as angeocateter or with a needle connected to a
syringe (Eni K, 2006). Installation of the IV is one way or part of the treatment to include
drugs or vitamins into the patient's body (Darmawan, 2008).

While infuse is to insert a certain amount of liquid through the patient's vein
continuously in a certain time (Azwar, 2008). Meanwhile, according to Lukman (2007), the
installation of intravenous infusion is to insert a needle or cannula into the vein (vein) to
pass infusion / treatment, with the aim that a number of fluids or drugs can enter the body
through the vein within a certain period. This action is often a life saving measures such as
the many fluid loss, dehydration and shock, because the therapeutic efficacy and safe mode
of administration required basic knowledge of fluid and electrolyte balance and acid-base.

So it can be concluded that the infusion is a technique of inserting a needle or

cannula into the vein to enter the intravenous fluid into the body
