Day Prayer & Fasting Guide

Key Scriptures:

But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye
shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria,
and unto the uttermost part of the earth. [Acts 1:8]

And when the day of Pentecost was fully come, they were all with one accord in
one place. And suddenly there came a sound from heaven as of a rushing mighty
wind, and it filled all the house where they were sitting. And there appeared unto
them cloven tongues like as of fire, and it sat upon each of them. And they were
all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit
gave them utterance. [Acts 2:1-4]

It’s one thing to know about God— it’s a different thing to be known by God.
Prayer and fasting are powerful ways to prepare to receive His presence, and
all that He has planned for your life, as well as grow deeper in your walk with
Him as you proclaim, More of you and less of me.
Ask yourself, What am I allowing to come between me and God’s presence?
Imagine the blessings He has for you when you prepare your heart and
surrender your all to Him.
Join the Anointed Faith Family Church (AFFC) as we encourage you to devote

Prayer & Fast journey.

What is Prayer & Fasting?

Prayer and fasting is defined as voluntarily going without food in order to focus
on prayer and fellowship with God. Prayer and fasting often go hand in hand,
but this is not always the case. You can pray without fasting, and fast without
prayer. It is when these two activities are combined and dedicated to God's
glory that they reach their full effectiveness. Having a dedicated time of prayer
and fasting is not a way of manipulating God into doing what you desire.
Rather, it is simply forcing yourself to focus and rely on God for the strength,
provision, and wisdom you need.
Are you relying on things that have nothing to do with God to get you through
your day? You may not even realize you have an addiction. For example, if you
“have to have” coffee every day, and you are not willing to give it up, you may
be addicted. Maybe your fast needs to just be about coffee. Ask God and He
will show you.
Everyone doing a physical fast should consult a physician first. If you have
medical issues, consider fasting TV or me-dia. The point is that there is
something God wants you to separate yourself from so that you can see Him
more clearly. Don’t cheat yourself by removing yourself from the fast entirely.

Basic Purpose for Fasting

Fasting to gain spiritual alertness and overcome temptation (Matthew 4.2)
Fasting to seek God’s will in a specific matter (Judges 20.26; Acts 14.23)
Fasting in repentance for sin (1 Samuel 7.6; 2 Samuel 12.16; 21-23; 1 Kings
21.27; Nehemiah 9.1-3; Daniel 9.3; Joel 1.14; 2.12;15; Jonah 3.5)
Fasting in concern for the work of God (Nehemiah 1.4; 1 Corinthians 7.5)
Fasting as a prerequisite for spiritual authority (Matthew 17.21; Mark 9.29)
Fasting for deliverance or protection (2 Chronicles 20.3; Ezra 8.21-23; Esther
4.13,16; 9.31; Jeremiah 14.12)
Fasting to humble one’s self before God (Psalm 69.10-13)
Fasting as a part of worship (Luke 2.37; Acts 13.2-3; 10.2,30)
Fasting when in deep sorrow (1 Samuel 31.13; 2 Samuel 1.11-12; 12.16; 21-
23; Psalm 35.13; Daniel 6.18)

Prayer & Fasting - What Does It Accomplish?

Spending time in prayer and fasting is not automatically effective in
accomplishing the desires of those who fast. Fasting or no fasting, God only
promises to answer our prayers when we ask according to His will. 1 John
5:14-15 tells us, "This is the confidence we have in approaching God: that if we
ask anything according to his will, he hears us. And if we know that he hears us
- whatever we ask - we know that we have what we asked of him." In the
prophet Isaiah's time, the people grumbled that they had fasted, yet God did
not answer in the way they wanted (Isaiah 58:3-4). Isaiah responded by
proclaiming that the external show of fasting and prayer, without the proper
heart attitude, was futile (Isaiah 58:5-9).

How can you know if you are praying and fasting according to God's will? Are
you praying and fasting for things that honor and glorify God? Does the Bible
clearly reveal that it is God's will for you?

Prayer & Fasting - What Does It Accomplish? Continued...

If we are asking for something that is not honoring to God or not God's will for
our lives, God will not give what we ask for, whether we fast or not. How can we
know God's will? God promises to give us wisdom when we ask. James 1:5
tells us, "If any of you lacks wisdom, he should ask God, who gives generously
to all without finding fault, and it will be given to him.

Prayer & Fasting Preparation

Prepare your heart:
In 2 Chronicles 7:14, God appears to Solomon and explains that if His people
are going through a hard time, they should seek Him and follow His ways.
Then, He will hear their prayers and heal them. Be willing to hear what God says
needs to change, and be willing to change. Don’t continue to sin. Tell God that
you surrender your life to Him and that you want more of Him and His way.

Prepare your motives:

Ephesians 1:3 says that there are spiritual blessings assigned to us. We can
never exhaust them! Who knows what God wants to give you or show you?
Maybe He wants to bestow gifts such as wisdom, anointing, prayer power,
healing power, teaching power, joy, or encouragement. When you eliminate
things that are keeping you from focusing on God, He is able to show you
things about your life that you never knew.

Prepare your schedule:

Prepare to wake up earlier to join the 6 a.m. prayer call. Remember, the fast is
about communing with God, so don’t fill your time with distractions that will
keep you from feeling hungry. Create a plan and commit to spending more
time with the Lord throughout the 36 days. Read Acts chapter 2:1-47.

Week 1 Focus: The Power of One Accord

Day 1 - Feb. 25th: And when the day of Pentecost was fully come, they were all
with one accord in one place. [Acts 2:1]

Day 2 - Feb. 26th: And the multitude of them that believed were of one heart and of
one soul: neither said any of them that ought of the things which he possessed was
his own; but they had all things common. [Acts 4:32]

Day 3 - Feb. 27th: Again I say unto you, That if two of you shall agree on earth as
touching any thing that they shall ask, it shall be done for them of my Father which
is in heaven. [Matthew 18:19]

Day 7 - March 3rd: Behold, how good and how pleasant it is for brethren to dwell

the beard, even Aaron's beard: that went down to the skirts of his garments;As the
dew of Hermon, and as the dew that descended upon the mountains of Zion: for

Week 2 Focus: The Power of Praise & Worship

Day 8 - Mar. 4th: And suddenly there was a great earthquake, so that the
foundations of the prison were shaken: and immediately all the doors were opened,
and every one's bands were loosed. [Acts 16:26]

Day 9 - Mar. 5th: And when they began to sing and to praise, the Lord set
ambushments against the children of Ammon, Moab, and mount Seir, which were
come against Judah; and they were smitten. [ 2 Chronicles 20:22]

Day 10 - Mar. 6th: Rejoice in the Lord, O ye righteous: for praise is comely for the

Day 30 - Mar. 26th: Now the Lord is that Spirit: and where the Spirit of the Lord is,
