TAU  KAPPA  EPSILON

Coin  Drive
March  4th  was  the  United  Way  Coin  Drive.  Several  brothers  participated  in  the  event,  in  which  we
went  dorm  storming  asking  people  for  spare  change  to  donate  to  the  community.  We  were,  by  a
significant  margin,  the  largest  represented  Greek  Organization  at  the  event,  followed  only  by  Zeta  Tau
Alpha  sorority.  We  also  had  a  brother,  Rythm  Gade,  dressed  up  as  Ritchie.  All  of  the  brothers  there
had  letters  on  and  this  was  a  great  event,  not  just  for  philanthropy  hours,  but  for  PR  as  well.

Joe  Pereira,  Max  Guerine,  and  Rythm  Gade  as  Ritchie

Snapbacks  and  Tattoos

To  start  March  off  right,  our
first  weekend  we  had  a
social  with  Brockport’s  Phi
Sigma  Sigma  sorority.  The
theme  was  Snapbacks  and   Nick  Deriu  getting
Tattoos,  so  many  of  us  went   tattooed  by  Jon
Phan  and  Evan
rocking  Sharpie  tattoos  all   Ney
over.  Many  were  funny  or
creative,  but  the  real
winners  were  the  most
recent  PC  (97)  who,  by
request  from  Dave  Haller,  all
had  Sharpie  tramp  stamps.
Although  a  lot  of  brothers
and  girls  left  for  the  bars
around  1,  those  of  us  that
stayed  kept  going  hard  until
the  cops  broke  the  party  up
at  around  6  AM.  This  was  our   Jarrett  Plante,
first  social  with  the  Phi  Sigs   Max  Guerine,  and
but  will  definitely  not  be  our   Phi  Sig  Melissa  at
last.   the  party

JAMES  “RUGBURN”  ADAMS

(1967-‐2014)

All  of  us  in  TKE  were  shocked  and  saddened  to  find  that  March  marked  the  passing  of
one  of  our  much-‐loved  fraters,  Past  Prytanis  James  D.  Adams,  aka  Rugburn.  The
following  is  an  excerpt  from  his  obituary:

YORK,  Maine  -‐  James  David  Adams,  46  died  unexpectedly  on  March  21,  2014  at  his
home  in  York,  Maine.
Born  in  Boston,  Mass.  on  August  9,  1967  he  is  the  son  of  Terry  and  Dorothy  (Doyle)
Adams.  He  attended  York  Schools  graduating  with  the  class  of  1985.  He  furthered  his
education  at  Rochester  Institute  of  Technology,  studying  Technical  Photography.
An  avid  outdoorsman,  skier,  and  animal  lover,  his  early  career  was  spent  in
adventure  photography.  Most  recently  he  worked  as  a  skilled  tradesman  in
carpentry  and  plumbing.
He  spent  much  of  his  time  helping  others,  and  donated  his  carpentry  and  plumbing
skills  to  the  Center  For  Wildlife  in  Cape  Neddick,  Maine.
He  was  a  longtime  member  of  the  Appalachian  Mountain  Club  and  enjoyed  hiking
and  hosting  thru-‐hikers  as  they  traveled  the  trail  north.
His  first  love  was  his  family,  he  is  survived  by  his  parents,  Terry  and  Dorothy  Adams,
brother  Tom  and  wife  Sheila,  nieces  Corby  and  Emerson  of  York,  and  sister  Lyn
Adams,  nieces  and  nephews  Natalie,  Christopher,  Hillary,  Andrew,  and  Amanda.
In  lieu  of  flowers  donations  may  be  made  in  his  memory  to  the  Center  for  Wildlife
POB  620  Cape  Neddick,  Maine  03902.  Arrangements  are  entrusted  to  the  J.S.  Pelkey
Funeral  Home.

The  active  chapter  is  currently  working  with  our  fundraising  chair,  Conner  Westover,  on
a  fundraiser  that  we  can  run  in  order  to  donate  to  the  Center  for  Wildlife  in  Frater
Rugburn’s  honor.  In  the  meantime,  we  will  set  up  a  PayPal  account  to  which  donations
can  be  made.  Our  deepest  sympathies  go  out  to  Jim’s  family.
