Marking Guidelines: BU4CP: Creative Project


Module Outcomes:
On successful completion of the module, students should be able to:
1) formulate and plan a project (independently and/or collaboratively), anticipate planning issues and prioritise
effectively (PLO A6, B4, C1, C2)
2) make effective use of acquired knowledge about the music profession, the local area, resources, and any other
relevant initiatives to manage and execute a project (PLO A3, A4, A5, A7, A9, B4, C1, C2, C3)
3) extract core issues from relevant research resources in support of project development and reflection (PLO A3,
A4, B4, C4, C5)
4) utilise a problem-solving approach to issues arising during the conception, implementation and review of project
work (PLO B4, C1)
5) illustrate engagement with the music profession in terms of contacts made, appropriate self-presentation and
demonstrate corporate and collegial musical responsibility (PLO C1, C6)

Exceptional: An exceptional ability to organise, reflect upon and convey a wide range of high
quality learning experiences and representative materials; promotional materials of a highly
professional standard, expertly presented; a very mature and extremely well balanced
I (high) 86-100 approach is evident throughout; submission is the best reflection of the outstanding attributes
of the individual; submission reflects authoritative engagement with relevant technologies
(where appropriate) and a highly developed understanding of their audiences. Project
proposal is exceptionally creative, imaginative, original and achievable.
Outstanding: An extremely strong submission which is meticulously prepared and
demonstrates a wealth of high quality learning and a well-judged range of outstanding
representative materials; a mature reflection with admirably concision and intellectual
I (mid) 76-85 acumen; a very good professional presentation of promotional materials, underpinned by an
outstanding range of learning experiences; submission reflects accomplished engagement
with relevant technologies (where appropriate) and a developed understanding of their
audiences. Project proposal is highly creative, imaginative, ambitious and achievable
Excellent: A concise, thoughtful, insightful and balanced summary of excellent learning
experiences and a range of excellent representative materials; sophisticated and articulate
reflection which is balanced and informative; promotional materials of an acceptable
I (low) 70-75 professional standard, conveying the excellent level of expertise of the individual; submission
reflects a high standard of engagement with relevant technologies (where appropriate) and a
sound understanding of their audiences. Project proposal is creative, conveys excellent
initiative, and is achievable.
Very good: A very good overall account of a broad range of learning experiences; materials
are generally succinct and punchy; an evident an ability to prioritise, select and reject
material; a very worthy reflective account, well thought through and engaging; promotional
II i 60-69 materials are of a very good standard, imaginatively prepared; submission reflects consistent
engagement with relevant technologies (where appropriate) and an understanding of their
audiences. Project proposal demonstrates some creativity, very good initiative, and its aims
are achievable, albeit with some renewed attention to planning.
Good: Reasonably detailed accounting of the activities undertaken and a reasonable
selection of representative materials; a clear sense of the learning experience of the
individual is evident; good, if perhaps somewhat unsophisticated evaluation which may be
characterized by some naïve solecisms; a reasonable range of good experience is evident
II ii 50-59 though the reflection; promotional materials carefully prepared if somewhat uninspiring;
submission reflects some engagement, if inconsistent, with relevant technologies (where
appropriate) and developing understanding of their audiences. Project proposal is somewhat
creative, and shows a degree of initiative. Its aims are achievable with some renewed
attention to planning and detail.
Adequate: An acceptable record of learning experiences undertaken and adequate
representative materials; some ability to reflect upon and evaluate these experiences
objectively; perhaps a somewhat ramshackle and disorganised presentation although it
reveals a generally good range of activity; promotional materials acceptable if a little

unfocussed; submission reflects basic engagement with relevant technologies (where
appropriate) and a limited understanding of their audiences. Project proposal reveals basic
creativity, and the potential to be imaginative. Its aims are achievable with significant renewed
attention to planning and detail.

focus and do not demonstrate any consistency; perhaps characterized by a mechanistic,
unfocussed and essentially uncritical listing of learning which may seem rather insubstantial;
promotional materials rather weak, with infelicities and inaccuracies; submission reflects

limited engagement with relevant technologies, where appropriate, and lacks some
understanding of their audiences. Project proposal lacks sufficient creativity and imagination,
and its aims are unclear and not achievable without considerable renewed attention to
planning, detail and scope.
Few merits: Very limited evidence of learning experiences and insubstantial representative
materials; poorly organised and lacking any critical and evaluative skill; little more than a
listing of what is probably a rather dubious and slight range of experience; promotional

proposal lacks creativity and imagination, and attention to detail. Its aims are poorly identified

Severely limited: Shoddy and disorganised; it is unclear from the presented materials the
essence of the learning that has taken place; lacking any focus and detail; little or no ability to
