includes the following changes.
2 Overview
2.1 Introduction
During a CS call or a PS data session, a single burst transmitted over the Um interface may be
lost due to interference or multipath fading. Therefore, GSM products incorporate proper coding
and interleaving schemes to minimize the impact of interference or multipath fading. If a speech
frame is divided into multiple bursts for transmission, the loss of a single burst has minimal
impact on speech quality. The Antenna Frequency Hopping feature provides transmit diversity.
With this feature deployed, the bursts of a speech frame are transmitted on different paths. This
reduces the possibility that all bursts of a speech frame are lost and ensures the speech quality.
When traffic channels do not participate in frequency hopping or only a small number of
frequencies participate in frequency hopping, this feature brings substantial diversity gains
without adding TRXs.
In the case of slow-moving MSs with low coding rates, this feature brings substantial diversity
gains. In the case of fast-moving MSs with low coding rates (for example, the MSs are moving
along high-speed railways in the coverage area), this feature brings few diversity gains. In the
case of high coding rates or no coding, this feature brings negative diversity gains.
The Antenna Frequency Hopping feature provides transmit diversity on the downlink. As shown
in Figure 2-1, subscriber data is coded and interleaved to obtain the transmit signal S. S is divided
into S1 and S2, which are then transmitted through different antennas. This reduces the
probability that all the data of a subscriber is lost and improves the anti-attenuation capability
of the receiver and the speech quality of the slow-moving MS. The downlink coverage area is
also enlarged. Downlink transmit diversity is used to overcome fast fading. Therefore, this
feature is mainly applied in scenarios where multipath fading exists, for example, in suburban
areas requiring wide coverage.
With the Antenna Frequency Hopping feature, the system selects certain TRXs in the serving
cell according to the antenna hopping selection algorithm to transmit the downlink data of a
subscriber. Therefore, the data of the subscriber is transmitted through different antennas
connected to these TRXs. All the TRXs used to transmit the data of the same subscriber form a
TRX group. Each TRX in the TRX group has the same transmit power, for example, when all
the TRXs serve the underlaid or overlaid subcell of a concentric cell. The antennas that are
connected to the TRXs in one TRX group form an antenna hopping set. Each antenna hopping
set must have at least two antennas.

√ indicates that the NE supports this feature. × indicates that the NE does not support this feature.
3 Technical Description
The antenna hopping selection algorithm is expressed as follows: TRXI = (S + TRXIO) mod N
Here,
TRXI indicates the index of a TRX in a TRX group. Its value ranges from 0 to N-1.
TRXIO indicates the initial offset of a TRX in a TRX group. Its value ranges from 0 to N-1.
FN indicates the number of a TDMA frame and it is broadcast on the SCH. The MS synchronizes
with the BTS by adjusting the FN (ranging from 0 to 2715647).
TRXHSN indicates the hopping sequence number (ranging from 0 to 63) of a TRX group.
Based on the obtained TRXI, the system searches the TRX group for a TRX for subscriber data
transmission.
Similar to baseband frequency hopping, antenna frequency hopping enables the data of all the
timeslots on the BCCH TRX to be transmitted on the antennas connected to all the TRXs in the
cell in sequence. This increases the space diversity and optimizes data reception of the MS from
the BCCH TRX. Therefore, the network performance is improved.
If a cell supports both baseband frequency hopping and antenna frequency hopping, TRXs
participating in baseband frequency hopping must also participate in antenna frequency hopping.

Others A cell involved in antenna frequency hopping has at least two antennas.
5.1.2 Activation
Step 2 Run the SET GCELLHOPANT command with Cell Antenna Hopping set to YES_HPANT
(Yes).
Step 3 Run the ADD GCELLHOPANTGRP command to add a cell hopping antenna group. In this
step, set Index Type and Hop TRX Group Index to appropriate values.
When a cell is activated, you can also run the SET GCELLHOPANTQUICKSETUP command with
Index Type and Cell Antenna Hopping set to appropriate values to activate the Antenna Frequency
Hopping feature quickly.

l When configuring the Frequency Hopping feature on the CME, you must perform a single configuration
first, and then perform batch modifications if required.
l You must perform a single configuration for a parameter before batch modifications of the parameter.
You are advised to perform batch modifications before logging out of the parameter setting interface.
To modify objects, such as BSCs, BTSs, cells, and TRXs, in batches, click the icon
on the CME configuration interface to start the batch modification wizard. For the method
of performing batch modifications through the CME batch modification center, press F1
on the wizard interface to obtain online help.
