INTRODUCTION

Internship is one method by which student is given a chance to apply the theories

and computations that they have learned from the school. It also helps the student to

acquire relevant knowledge and skills by performing in actual work setting. Colleges and

universities require their students to undergo such training within a specific number of

hours as part of the curriculum.

For the students, an internship program provides opportunities to go through the

actual methodologies of a specific job using real documents. In effect the workplace

becomes a development venue for a student trainee to learn more about his chosen field

and practice what he has learn from academy.

On the other hand, an effective internship program, also benefits the companies

who accepts trainees. First, the interns provide additional manpower for a lesser labor

cost than a regular employee. Most of them are all eager to learn the ropes so chances

are high that they will cooperate.

Employees can use this internship strategy as a method in recruiting new

employees. Since the training supervisor can follow the trainees’ progress, he can gauge

9
based on performance, behavior, and attitude if the trainee will make a good recruit after

the completion of his internship.

Interns can bring ideas into the organization. Given to the opportunity to speak

their minds freely and without fear, they may able to contribute significantly in

brainstorming sessions or research and eventually help to improve the organizations

activity. While training the interns, employers are in fact are also teaching their employees

to process of guiding the trainees stretches their patience, develops teaching skills, and

make them more sensitive to the needs and mind set of the younger generation. The

course of supervision also teaches them on how to share what they know and be

receptive to questions, Hence the internship also becomes an avenue in training for future

managers of the company.

Accommodating on-the-job trainees can truly beneficial not only to the trainees but

also to the companies that provide opportunities for this type of learning. This is wisdom

in the front lines. Such training can be an investment that will be valuable to the company

later on. This is also why trainees should take their internship seriously as it can become

a powerful tool and possibly even a source recommendation when they take that big lift

from being students to career professionals.

NARRATION OF EXPERIENCE

First Week

The trainee started her on the job training (OJT). The trainee oriented by the company’s

Managing Director about their office nature of work, the company rules and regulations

particularly regarding their daily office attire and the sensitivity of the documents she may

be encounter during her stay. The trainee consider as one of their staff, Her Training

Supervisor gave the company’s voucher, petty cash fund for the year 2016 and asked her

to audit and analyze the documents. After satisfying and completing the task, the trainee

also files the papers on different filling cabinet, summarize the files and sort it.

Second Week

On her second week of work, the trainee was given a task about analyzing the vouchers,

sales invoice, payroll and official receipts of Golden Arrow Const. & Dev. Corporation (one

of their client). The trainee also classify the Golden Arrow Const. & Dev. Corporation’s

monthly income and expenses and after that, she analyze every transaction and made a

journal entries. The Accounting head also helped and familiarized her to different BIR

Forms like 1601C, 1601E, 2550M, 2550Q and Etc.

Third Week

The third week was about auditing and checking of their Client’s documents and sending

some formal letters to them, the trainee was also tasked to receive phone calls. In

16
receiving business calls, she should be polite and must observe the proper manner in

answering calls. The office actually uses multiple phones, two for incoming calls and

another for making outgoing calls. She was basically assigned to receive calls from the

two phones for incoming calls. There were times when both phones would ring and

answering both seemed impossible, such were uneasy situations for her, but it all ended

up pretty well.

Fourth Week

April 15, 2017 its Black Saturday but Sir Rowell Ivan Sta. Ana, CPA gave another task,

for the trainee, its cramming day. It is the stressful week because ITR deadlines are

coming, but there are many pending papers to do. Sir Rowell Ivan Sta. Ana, CPA taught

the different files and forms subject to the BIR; when and how to file it. The trainee also

finished an Auditor’s Report. On the following days, the trainee went to UCPB to pay BIR’s

tax, she assigned to audit the LGI Business and IT Solution’s Financial Statements.

Fifth Week

As weeks went by, the trainee had already worked just like a regular employee. The Fifth

week was the LGI’s Statement of Financial Position for the year 2016. The trainee, with

the full effort finished the task efficiently and effectively. She also prepared an audit about

the filing fees and processing fees. The trainee present well the 2016 Statement of

Financial Position, Filing fees and processing fees.

17
Sixth Week

The trainee conducts an inventory of the office supplies with the helped of her co-

trainee she performed well the task given to her. The trainee was also tasked to deposit,

uncashed checks and withdraws money the task seems to be easy since the trainee

was knowledgeable and familiar with that kind of transaction. She was also assigned to

deposit business mails.

Seventh Week

The trainee performed the usual tasks assigned to her in the previous weeks. There were

times when she would only do the filing of records the whole day, and sometimes she

would just be answering phone calls whenever the records room was used on special

occasions. The trainee is sometimes given the job of encoding performance evaluations

and bill reports, other times photocopying of office orders which were sent to the various

departments.

Eighth Week

It was her Eighth Week, The Company’s CEO taught her about the checks; How it

matters, What are the do and don’t when it comes to checks, What is the corresponding

penalties, Crossed checks, The local and on-us checks, the erasure on checks. This

simply lesson really helped the trainee to developed her knowledge about that matter.

After that, the trainee conducted again an inventory and she finished her task quickly.

18
Ninth Week

The trainee was approaching to end, and the trainee believes that she was near to meet

the focal point of her trainings after finishing some paper works and tasks. One of her

training supervisor asked her to arranged the files, assisted some clients, deposited,

uncashed and withdraw money, deposited legal documents. She was eager in finishing

all the final tasks given to her, but somehow felt sad because it was her last day of doing

all those things which in some ways have already become part of his daily activities.

Tenth Week

It was the last week of the battlefield of work, a week of realization and enlightenment.

The days are now counted only on the fingers but the knowledge and experience gain

inside the business were immeasurable and priceless. The company’s CEO evaluate the

trainee give some advices, comments, and suggestion for the preparation to her chosen

path. Before finally leaving the company, the employees gave her a remembrance that

made her special. The trainee was lucky because her supervisors were very nice and

warm to her and taught her many things most significant to his professional life.

19
PROBLEMS ENCOUNTERED

Everyone experiences tough times, it is a measure of your determination and

dedication how you deal with them and how you can come through them.

During the stay in the company, the trainee has encountered problems that most

of the trainees known and experienced. At the first, the trainee considered the location of

the company as a problem during her practicum activity, it would take a one and half hour

for her to reach the place.

When it comes to works, there were some improper filings of documents so that

the trainee sometimes takes time in finding such files and documents. Lastly, when

making financial statements the client’s source documents are hand written so, the

trainee had a hard time deciphering the information.

20
RECOMMENDATIONS

Every trainee must bring focus to his work. He should carefully listen to every

instruction of their supervisor. If ever he does not understand something, he should ask

for help. Better to ask than to fail in doing a task. Be aggressive in order to learn. Don’t

wait for a supervisor to teach you how things work; taking initiatives first hand is a must.

In the world of professionalism it is only yourself to whom he can depend on. It is important

to keep his composure when dealing with problems, to turn them all right, panicking does

not help. Camaraderie is one factor to the success of a group, observing the proper

attitude while working should be noted because it can affect the work of his colleagues.

He should work-in promptness and have confidence with everything he does.

21
CONCLUSION

Nothing beats experience as the perfect learning tool. This On-The-Job training

served as the trainee’s stepping stone to pursue her dream. This training enriched her

confidence created a foundation of being a good employee someday, the trainee can

acquire and practice applying the lessons learned from the years of formal education and

discoveries that there are still a lot more to learn from the real work. Also, OJT serves

best by exposing the students to potential employers and the possibility of being hired

someday depending on the needs of the company, as well as the performance of them in

the workplace.

This On-The-Job Training is very helpful and will be a very helpful to the trainee as

she continue to take her journey in the field of her chosen path. It really gave her a taste

of the real world – A glimpse of what lies ahead after she graduate.

PROFESSIONAL READINGS

Professional Readings No. 1

“The purpose of life is to live it, to taste experience to the almost, to reach out

eagerly and without fear for newer and richer experience.”

-Eleonor Roosevelt

Reaction:

Finally, though it is hard to let go all the things that learnt, experience and

knowledge about on the job works, I can tell that all those things are made me realize and

taught me on to be more confident and excited for a real job. And I’ll bring those things

whenever and wherever I work. And I promise that I will cherish all the memories during

my stay in LGI Business and IT Solutions Inc. In this Company, I gained more knowledge

that can teach me on how to be a good leader in the future generation.

Being a trainee is finally over! But, it is just a beginning.

23
Professional Readings No. 2

“People respond differently to tough times. Some run away from danger other lives

in ignorance. Intelligent people fight. And fighters flourish in tough times.”

-Robert Kiyosaki

Reaction:

Through tough times, we can see what we really can do and how stronger we

are. Some of us easily give up and stop from where they are standing. But intelligent

people fight, they fight thinking of their goal and looking in a positive way. But fighting

those times doesn’t only leads you to success but make you stronger for more and

tougher times in the future.

24
Professional Readings No. 3

“You were born to win, but to be winner, you must plan to win, prepare to win, and

expect to win.”

-Zig Ziglar

Reaction:

You can’t get what you want while only sitting and waiting. You have to do

something. Same as being a winner, how can you say that you already win if there is no

battle? Before going on a battle you must plan, you must know who you are fighting.

Preparation is a must. It’s just like “Prevention is better than cure.” If you’re prepared,

then it will less difficult. Expect to win, we say expectations lead to disappointment, that

is the negative side because if you will look in a brighter side, won’t anything be a good

results? Won’t anything be on what you plan for?

25
Professional Readings No. 4

“Successful people take big risks knowing that they might fall hard. But, they might

succeed more than they ever dreamed too.”

- Robert Kiyosaki

Reaction:

Taking the risk is the hardest. But in everything we do, we almost have to risk

something before we get what it is. We even know that we might fall but continue risking.

Because the higher the risk the higher the return. No one knows what the result would

be, so better to take the risk and who knows we might succeed. That would be better

without knowing the result because you didn’t even try.
