Fast Track Master of Engineering
BENEFITS
High-achieving undergraduate students in
the Department of Mechanical Engineering
at Texas A&M University have an opportunity
to significantly reduce the time required to
obtain their Master of Engineering (M.Eng.) in
mechanical engineering following completion
of their Bachelor of Science in engineering (BSE)
degree.
ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS
Graduate applicants must do the following to be
considered for admission:
1. Provide three recommendations from
individuals who are familiar with their
academic achievement and potential;
2. Submit a Statement of Purpose.
3. Official Test Scores
• The GRE test is mandatory for all
students. Scores may not be older than
five years.
• International Students are required to
submit TOEFL scores. TOEFL scores cannot
be more than two years old.
4. Graduate applicants are required to submit
either a resume or curriculum vitae to the
mechanical engineering department.
Notes
1. Decrease the time to get a graduate degree
by approximately one year.
2. Complete M. Eng. via distance or on the Texas
A&M campus in College Station as work and
life balance allows.
3. Take six hours in summer after graduation and
12 hours in fall and finish in four-and-a-half
years.
4. Perform an internship in summer after
graduation and return to complete M.Eng.
HOW IT WORKS
1. There are 30 credit hours required to satisfy
an M.Eng degree.
2. If planned well, you could take at least
four classes during undergraduate studies
that count toward graduate degree. Two of
these four courses could also count toward
undergraduate degree, if selected from the
“stacked course” list.
3. If step 2 is satisfied, then remaining
requirements for the M.Eng. consist of:
• Eight courses (24 credit hours)
1. It is not required that you take four
graduate level courses in final year of
undergraduate studies; doing so, however,
maximizes capability to finish M.Eng. within
one year of BSE graduation.
2. The department is ever-seeking to expand
its offering of stacked courses, which create
an opportunity for a fast-track student to
have a graduate course apply toward both
the undergraduate Bachelor of Science and
graduate M.Eng. degrees.
3. Before making the decision to pursue the
fast track M.Eng. program, it is advisable
that students schedule a visit with one of
the department's undergraduate advisors.
