About Me
MAIN MENU
The interior environment has a significant impact on the human mind and
body. The elements of design and how they are arranged affects mood,
behavior, and how we physically interact with our surroundings. This dynamic
relationship between interior design and human response has always fascinated
me.
I have been passionate about interior design since I was a kid. I would always
try to make my bedroom in our Iowa farmhouse perfect by decorating and
rearranging furniture. Some of my creative hobbies have included drawing,
fashion, various performing arts, writing, culinary arts, and music. If a certain
activity involved design, I have probably tried it at some point. As I dabbled
in tons of creative pursuits, interior design naturally remained my dominating
interest. After graduating high school, my decision to pursue interior design as a
career was a no-brainer.
While the decision to pursue interior design was simple, it was challenging
to fit a CIDA-accredited education into my life. In 2014 I married my best friend,
who happened to be an Active Duty soldier in the US Army. My husband and I
have moved across the country several times. An online education made the
most sense for our constantly moving life. I’ve had to call many places “home”,
which has only improved my interior design abilities. Being able to arrive at a
new space and make it work for our needs became a skill that I am proud of.
As my growing family begins to settle down and leave the military, I am

ready to begin my interior design career. I have faith that my abilities, past
experiences, and education will allow me to become an exceptional designer.
I am committed to creating interior spaces that protect, serve, and delight
occupants.

Concept Statement
The design of the Pittsburgh home will reflect Jenny Donahue’s
elegant taste while providing a relaxing environment for herself and her
Pendant- Dining Room teenage son. Organization, order, and peacefulness are high-priority
goals for the design. An intermediate to high-key color scheme will
include a triad of natural gold, green, and blue. The client has a passion
for Art Nouveau period furniture, which tends to emphasize nature and
movement. The furniture selection will add to the serene, organic style of
the home. Extra care will be taken to preserve and celebrate the
integrity of the multi-use historic building in which the home is located.
The design will be a beautiful sanctuary for the clients to call home.

designed combining minimal, classic,
and contemporary styles. The design
was completed with a modest budget
of $500. This was accomplised using
some of the client’s own furniture, and
a few simple DIY jobs. The outcome is
peaceful, bright, and cozy.

The design for Kate’s living room is polished and timeless. Natural textures of wood, leather, linen, and weathered metal make the space feel
soothing and comfy. Rustic elements such as the large pendant and sturdy coffee table add an honest character to the space. This living room is
perfect for entertaining and movie nights, as all lighting selections are glare-free. This interior space captures Kate’s love of nature, art, and classic

Problem Statement
Schaughnessy Ocean Sports, a high-end ocean recreation supply store franchise, is opening a store in Hilton Head Island. Schaughnessy Ocean Sports
does well in their current multiple locations, but they are striving to become a household name on the East Coast and boost sales as well. Currently, Hilton
Head Island has few to no ocean recreation stores, and not a big reputation for adventurous water sports. It is known better as a great vacation spot, but the
opportunity to bring more adventure to the residents and visitors at Hilton Head is wide open. The surf in this area is very decent, and all types of water sports
and recreational activities can be enjoyed on the beaches of Hilton Head. Schaughnessy Ocean Sports is looking to boost their sales by opening a store with
an impactful design in this area. By opening a unique high-end store with a design that appeals to shopper’s emotions, Schaughnessy Ocean Sports will recieve
more attention as a top-quality ocean recreation store. Sales will be boosted and oceanic adventures will increase at this beautiful location.
Design Concept Statement

The design for the new Schaughnessy Ocean Sports location, at 123 Forest Beach Drive, Hilton Head Island, South Carolina, will be an emotionally
stimulating atmosphere created with a scientific approach of environmental psychology. This approach will increase sales to support healthy business. When
shoppers enter the retail space they will experience excitement and feel the spirit of adventure. A color scheme of black, teal, and white will create striking
contrast with the displayed products. The design for Schaughnessy Ocean sports will leave all occupants with a craving for adrenaline and an excitement for
ocean sports.

Problem Statement
The client is Marigold Hotel. This hotel has mainly business clientele and people traveling for work. The areas to be designed are located on the first and
second floor. The first floor will include a lobby and welcome space, a small bar or cafe, 12 standard rooms with either a king bed or two double beds, 2
ADA accessible rooms, a small gift shop (footprint only, no design required), and a manager’s office. The second floor will include a small exercise room
(footprint only, no design required), and the same amount of standard and ADA hotel rooms as those located on the first floor for a total of 28 rooms.
Universal design, sustainable design, and extra attention to ADA requirements will be made during the design process. The hotel’s design will attract
business travelers with special amenities and services (fitness center, desks with ergonomic seating in rooms, high speed internet, dry cleaning, and more).
The design will be modern, fresh, and comfortable. A neutral color pallete with eye catching accents will be utilized. The warm colors will support an
appetite for the hotel’s cafe and bar. The hotel’s brand will be conveyed throughout the design, creating a mood that is sleek and modern, yet warm
and inviting- a brand that supports a fast-paced lifestyle.

Accoustics are softened with fabric wallcoverings and a special ceiling material. Brand identity is evident with an energizing scheme of teal and gold
colors and sleek whimsical forms. Well-lit guestrooms feature comfortable materials and easy floorplans. Guest bathrooms have beautiful slate tile and

Institutional Design, Course: Institutional Design
Concept Statement
The new Community Health Clinic will be a valuable community asset, supporting wellness through offered services and research-based design. The design
will reflect the local vernacular style with elements of Neoclassical Revival. A soothing color palette of burgundy and light blue will cheer up the interior and
encourage healing. Colors will also indicate high-contact areas that require frequent cleaning. Light wood accents will create a homelike atmosphere. More
vibrant color schemes in the children’s areas and waiting rooms will encourage positive outlooks. The designs for the Community Health Clinic and Wexler
Pediatrics will be efficient places to encourage hope and healing.
