Initial Hookup UNO 2160

2 INITIAL HOOK UP
2.1 REMOVE COMPUTER FROM PACKAGING
Remove the UNO computer from the box and unplug the power connector from
the back of the UNO computer’s 24 VDC (Volts Direct Current) power input.
Store this connector in a safe place. You will be plugging it back into the UNO
computer when you are done with this procedure.

2.2 PLUG IN KEYBOARD & MOUSE

Plug the keyboard and mouse into the PS/2 port on the UNO computer using a 2:1
PS/2 Y adapter. One is supplied in the box but the lab should already have one
setup.

Figure 2-1 PS/2 Y Adapter

2.3 CONNECT TOUCH SCREEN MONITOR VIDEO

Connect the Touch Screen monitor VGA (Video Graphics Array) out to the VGA
in port on the UNO computer. In the lab this is the black cable coming from the
touch screen with the male DE-15(VGA) end on it. Refer to Figure 2-2 for a
picture of a VGA connector.

Figure 2-2 DE -15 Connector

2.4 CONNECT TOUCH SCREEN MONITOR SERIAL CABLE

The Serial Cable is used so that the touch screen will function as an HMI (Human
Machine Interface). Refer to Figure 2-3 for a picture of serial connector. As of
now OEM uses two varieties of touch screens and each is set to a different COM
port to for the touch screen to work.

2.4.1 Advantech Touch Screen

If the touch screen monitor is an Advantech, connect the serial cable (gray, male
DE-9 connector) to COM 1 (Communication Port 1) on the UNO computer.

Page 2-2 Issue (09/06)

UNO 2160 Initial Hookup

2.4.2 Stealth Touch Screen

If the touch screen monitor is Stealth, connect the serial cable (gray, female DE-9
connector) to COM 2 on the UNO computer.

Figure 2-3 DE-9 Connector

2.5 CONNECT INTERNET CAT 5 CABLE

Connect the Cat 5 (Category 5) cable coming from your internet access to the
LAN 1 (Local Area Connection 1) port on the UNO computer. This is the LAN
port furthest from the 24 VDC Power Input. Refer to Figure 2-4 for an image of a
Category 5 cable.

Figure 2-4 Cat 5 Cable

2.6 CONNECT SIMULATOR CAT 5 CABLE

Connect the Cat 5 cable that is coming from the simulator to the LAN 2 port on
the UNO computer. This cable may be a cross over cable straight to the back of
the Simulator computer (not likely), but is most likely a cable going to a switch in
the lab in which the Simulator is connected to.

2.7 CONNECT POWER

Connect the power cable (24 VDC) to the 24 VDC input. This power cable should
already be made and ready for use in the Lab. If not you will have to use the
green power connector you removed in section 2.1 . The power connector is
tabbed so that you cannot put it in backwards, however, for verification the red
wire (hot) should be closest to the LAN connection.

3.3 SET LAN 2 TO THE RESPECTIVE IP ADDRESS

The IP address needs to be configured on LAN 2 so that we can access the backup
file stored on the SIMULATOR computer.
NOTE: If another computer with the same IP address is on the same network as the
computer you are setting up, the computer you are setting up will get a “Limited
Connectivity” error. If this happens disconnect any other UNO computers from the

Issue (09/06) Page 3-5

network until you are done with this procedure. REMEMBER to reconnect when
you are done.

To set up the IP address, follow these steps:

• Open Windows Explorer. One way to do this is to hold the Windows
(Flag) key down on the keyboard and press . Another

way is to right click the start menu and left click

of the software. The data logging is dependent on the time set in Windows. If it is
not correct, the time logged will not be accurate. To update the time follow these
easy steps;

Issue (09/06) Page 4-25

computer is going to be placed on the rig. This should be setup correctly after the
restore process is completed but it must be verified. To verify and make changes
follow these steps;

• From the Desktop, double click the KEPServEx V4.0 Icon as

shown in Figure 4-14. This will open up the KEPServerEx

4.11 INSTALL LICENSE FOR OEM INTER-VIEW AND KEP SERVER 4

You have now completed all tasks that you can do without any assistance. Please
contact Charlie Piper or Mark Bayern to install the licenses for KEP Server Ex
and for the OEM Inter-View software before taking the unit out to the field.

4.12 FINISH UP
Once all the above tasks are completed, shut the computer down. Unplug all
external connections and put the power connector you removed in section 2.1
back into the 24 VDC power slot on the back of the UNO computer. With a black
sharpie, write the rig number the computer is going to, the IP Address you issued
the computer, and the assigned name (ex: UNO 1), in the top right hand corner of
the computer. This will help identify it on the rig and also if it comes back to the
shop.
