BIOMASS GASIFIER ENERGY

POWER AND HEAT/CHILLING APPLICATIONS

Biomass – a renewable energy source

Biomass is organic matter created through plant photosynthesis with the sun as energy source, i.e.
all types of plant material, wood, manure, household waste etc. Plant biomass can be used as food
for humans, feed for animals and energy in the form of heat, electricity, gas and liquid fuel. Energy
production based on biomass can offer significant environmental benefits by substituting fossils fuels
and thus reduce the increase in atmospheric greenhouse gases, particularly CO2, and it can
contribute to enhanced security of supply.

Biomass resources

We evaluate the amount and the quality of biomass resources for energy purposes and materials.
We are also conducting research into the properties of biomass in connections with its use for
energy and materials.

Conversion technologies

Biomass can be converted into bioethanol (alcohol), biodiesel, hydrogen, biogas, syngas, heat or
electricity. Or it can be converted into bioplastic or material fibers and form part of the so-called
biocomposites. We are developing new and more efficient methods with reduced energy
consumption for conversion of the biomass and studying how the waste from the processes can be
recycled. Acclaim Technology Services is also helping to pave the way for actual industrial use of
the technologies via demonstration projects together with Danish and international companies.

Impact on society – increased sustainability

We assess the socio-economic and environmental impacts that will result from producing and using
the new biofuels. This may, for example, be a reduction in the emission of greenhouse gases,
reversal of nutrients or enhanced carbon sequestration in soil. The research shows ways to improve
growing methods that may contribute to reducing the agricultural sector’s discharge of nutrients. By
means of technological foresight, we place the new technologies in a wider social context, and we
analyse how the transport sector will be able to use biofuels and how the technologies can
strengthen Danish companies’ innovative skills and growth.

Biomass Gasifier Technology

Biomass Gasifier is a thermo-chemical converter/reactor, which converts the Biomass (Rice husk,
Fire wood, Maize Cobbs, Mustard Stalk, Groundnut Shell, Coconut Shell/Fronds, Sugarcane
Baggase, etc) into a high quality combustible gas called Producer Gas.

For Power Generation: 65% - 85% Diesel Saving in D.G. Sets in dual fuel mode OR in Producer
Gas Engine for low cost Power Generation.

India is basically an Agricultural Country, Biomass is available in abundance and at comparatively
lower prices, compared to imported Petroleum Products. Four Kg of Biomass Costing Rs.8.00 can
replace a litre of Diesel Costing Rs. 37.00 thereby saving nearly 60% in fuel cost. At this savings
the payback period is generally 4 to 9 months depending upon the capacity of the plant, running
hours of the Gasifier & the price of biomass available. This makes the Bio Mass Gasifier the best
option to produce Clean and Green Energy.

The Producer Gas can be used gainfully in all such Industries where FOSSIL FUEL i.e. Diesel, LDO,
F.O., Coal, etc are currently employed, as in:

1) Rice Mill, 5) Re Rolling Mills,

2) Cold Storage, 6) Process Industries dependent on
3) Flour Mills, continuous & uninterrupted power
4) Paper Mills, supply.

This Producer Gas can be used for THERMAL Applications in:

1) Furnace 7) Halwai Bhatti
2) Oven 8) Re Rolling Mill
3) Dryers 9) Aluminum & Brass Melting and
4) Thermo pack
5) Boiler 10) Annealing Furnace, etc.
6) Namkeen Bhatti

It is more useful for seasonal units as they can manage without taking Electric Connection from the
state electricity Board and save the minimum & fixed charges, which they have to pay when the unit
is not running.

The Operation and Maintenance of Bio Mass Gasifier Plant is so simple and standardized that
existing technicians/laborers can be trained during installation/commissioning of the plant.

The Annual Maintenance Cost of Biomass Gasifier is <3% of Plant cost and AMC will take care of
preventive, periodical and break down maintenance by the manufacturer.

NOC is not required from any Government Agency for setting up Biomass Gasifier as it is a Green,
Clean and Renewable Energy. This comes under Government Promotional scheme and the
Government extends a lot of benefits like:

 Accelerated Depreciation of 80%

 IT exemption for 9 years
 Central Grant of Rs.1.5 Crores/MW
 Carbon Credits.

Bio Mass Gasifier plants can be put to different sizes depending on the captive requirement and the
local availability of biomass – 500 kw to 6MWe. Each Kw also produces twice the amount of heat
which can be harnessed for Heating/Drying and Chilling/Air-conditioning.

Biomass Gasifiers does not cause any pollution. It is Eco-friendly and reduces the Green House
Gas emission, Acid rain etc and is eligible for CDM benefits under Clean Development mechanism
(CDM).

Producer Gas from Biomass Gasifier system can be used directly in the Diesel Engine. Generally,
in these dual fuel Diesel Engines; 15-35% of Diesel and the balance 85%-65% Producer gas is
used. No modification is required in the Engine for operation in Dual fuel mode.

A Bio Mass Gasifer Plant can be set up in 6 months time.

This is a relatively new technology which has been perfected in a very short time span considering
the importance of Clean and Green Energy from renewable fuel sources at a low cost suitable for
the Agrarian Indian conditions. The increase in price of fossil fuel (Diesel, FO, LDO, Coal), erratic
Power Supply and the need for economical uninterrupted power supply, Bio Mass Gasifier is gaining
popularity as a low cost renewable option with versatile applications as Power Generation and
thermal application.

With large land bank available for cultivation, backward integration to tie-up for Bio mass cultivation
is also possible. Hybrid variety of trees are now available which can be cut in 2 years and sustained
for regular cutting every year thereafter to offer continuous bio-mass supply. This cultivation by
itself is an independent revenue generating model.

To begin the evaluation process that will determine the size and appropriate technology for a
biomass system installation, Acclaim seeks to learn as much as possible from existing data,
including such information as fuel use, existing fossil fuel systems, thermal applications
(heating/chilling), quantity and characteristics of waste via data exchange.

If you’re ready to initiate a gasification project contact an Acclaim representative.
