CRY OF JELICOUN

By: Ana Liza P. Suycano

Green fields and scenic views,

Remote territory and a serene abode.
Location of rebels’ coups.
Jelicuon-witness of an episode.

Folks tell stories of notoriety,

Cattle-rustlers invaded this village.
Neighbors dreaded its entirety,
But, one man thought it’s an advantage.

Tan Martin, general in command,

Swore to secrecy with his soldiers.
Marched to Jelicoun with his band,
A pretense to arrest cattle robbers.

October 25, 1898-a day of bravery,

Soldiers contrived as retold.
Overthrow colonizers in the country,
CRY OF JELICOUN, thus unfolds!
