Q.2 Discuss the design of display you will like to have for the following purpose
(give suitable images/figures wherever required):
(a) Display of various speed limits to the vehicle drivers approaching / entering
the city.
(b) Display of consumer product in an airport.
Solution: -
a) Display of various speed limits to the vehicle drivers approaching / entering the city: -
A driver must not drive a vehicle on a highway at a speed that is greater than is reasonable and
prudent according to the conditions and hazards on or near the highway. A driver must exercise
due care and attention and reasonable consideration for other people. A driver must control the
speed of a vehicle to avoid a collision with people, vehicles, animals or other obstacles on the
highway.
Speeding is risky, but the safest speed is not always the slowest speed. If you drive much slower
than surrounding traffic, other drivers might get frustrated and try to pass you.
Speed Limit signs must be correctly fixture to ensure a speed limit is enforceable and to
encourage compliance.
1. Shape
2. Size
3. Nomenclature (text)
4. Text colour
5. Background colour etc.
In city the speed limit for the different types of vehicle is also different as follows:

b) Display of consumer product in an airport:
The display of the consumer product in an airport must be capable in term of visible,
understandable etc. to bring the consumer focus on the display.
Assure the display name, works correctly in all conditions of environmental effect, follow the
below guidelines:
1. Enter a short name that represents your business name.
2. Don't include additional text or suffixes.
3. Don't use repeated and unnecessary punctuation, capitalization, or symbols.
4. Don't use offensive or inappropriate language. Use clear and professional language.
5. A good combination of colour of text and background helps an interactive design.

Q.3 Discuss the design of display and control for traffic management in a metro
city (give suitable images/figures wherever required).
Solution: - The system would do this by predicting the optimal traffic routes and time intervals
for various traffic signal points by factoring in the following:
Road capacity.
External factors.
Sign board size, shape, color, background and arrow head must be in proper standards.
The current traffic control systems (TCS) in the metro cities of India are inefficient due to
randomness in the traffic density pattern throughout the day. Due to this, the vehicles have to
wait for a long time span even if the traffic density is very less. If the traffic signal timer
(TST) can be programmed to be manipulated with the continuously varying traffic density,
the problem of traffic congestion can be reduced to a significantly lower level.
Below are the some signs boards with information, we can use them as per our city road
requirement: -

Q.4 Explore the alternative design for gear change lever in the cars. Give suitable
explanations and images/figures in support of explanation.
Solution:-
No car is complete without a gearbox. For a car to run, power produced by an engine is to
be transmitted to the wheels (front or rear or all four) via a gearbox arrangement.
Earlier the gearshift level used to be a standard stick like a manual gearbox, with a Reverse, Drive
and Neutral slots, designed to shift in a single line, or maximum in gated (zigzag) format.
In some modern sports cars, the gear lever has been replaced entirely by "paddles", which are a
pair of levers, usually operating electrical switches (rather than a mechanical connection to the
gearbox), mounted on either side of the steering column, where one increments the gears up, and
the other down.
Some types of gear lever changing mechanisms:

Q.5 Prepare a questionnaire for getting a feedback on the consumer product for
launching a similar product in the market.
Solution:-
Voice of customers can become one of your most powerful weapons if you want to increase your
bottom line and create positive experiences.
A general Questionnaire for consumer product for launching a similar product in the market is as
follows: (Apart from general questions of Name, Age, Occupation, Salary etc.)

Q.6 A large cold drink manufacturer is considering the different materials for
packaging its product. Among the alternative materials are glass bottles, tetra packs
and poly packs. Compare the advantages and limitations of each material. Which
material will be most suitable?
Solution: -
Material Advantages Limitations
Reusable and recyclable Limitation in thin glass
Odorless and chemically inert Heavy weight
Impermeable to gases and vapors Transportation costs
Maintenance of product freshness for a long Brittleness
period of time without impairing taste or flavor Susceptibility to
Glass Useful for heat sterilization breakages from internal
Rigid pressure, impact, or
Good insulation thermal shock.
Production in numerous different shapes
Variations in glass color
Can protect light-sensitive contents
Transparent

(Modular Batch 2015 - Mohd Jawed Iqbal - Roll No: 151215)
CONCLUSION: Therefore the use of Tetra Pak containers, rather than glass bottles, results in
the use of 92% less packaging material than glass bottles, 54% less energy over the life cycle of
the container, 80% fewer greenhouse gases, 60% less solid waste volume, and 40-50%. Taking
all the point mentioned about glass bottle poly pack or tetra pack it is concluded that tetra pack is
most suitable for drink packaging.

Q.7 Discuss a conceptual design of a mass rapid transport system for a city like
Chandigarh. What are the major problems that have to be solved before the project
can be started?
Solution: - The original plan of the city was based on the gridiron defined by a system of
seven types of roads, which was called the 7Vs. The system was designed to provide safe
mobility to children and pedestrians within and between the sectors, while also permitting the
benefits of fast movement for vehicular traffic.
Chandigarh’s road network is under intense pressure today due to increase in population,
explosive growth in the number of private vehicles which has increased the number of
personalized vehicles, partly due to the absence of an efficient and reliable public transport
system.
Several ways to improve connectivity and travel throughout the city and its region:
Sixty to seventy percent of total trips should be made by public transport, with one (or
two) modal changes.
Maximum population should be served by public transport.
Trip origins and destination to be within 500m of public transport terminal and stops.
Safe and convenient pedestrian/NMV facilities throughout the urban area.
Safe bicycle lanes shall be provided to reach the public transport system, with secure
bicycle parking provided for those who do not have access to public transport within
walking distance.
Integrated urban land use and transport system resulting in efficient and sustainable
mobility for everyone and provide greater accessibility to opportunities (e.g.
employment, education, health, goods, and other services).
Therefore, Mass Rapid Transport System (MRTS) can be planned in a phased manner. For
example, the proposed routes for the various corridors of the MRTS are as follows:
1. Corridor 1: Khuda Lahora to IT Park via Punjab University, PGI, Government College,
General Hospital, Sector 17- Interchange, Sector 8, Sector 7, Sector 26, Grain Market,
Transport Nagar, Chandigarh Railway Station, Manimajra, covering a distance of
approximately 16.00 km.
2. Corridor II: Sector 1 Chandigarh to Bus terminal Sector 104 S.A.S Nagar, Mohali,
via Rock Garden, Sector 9, Sector 17 interchange, Sector 17 ISBT, Sector 22-Aroma
Hotel Sector 34, Bus Terminal Sector 43, Sector 52, Mohali Sector 62, Sector 60, Sector
72, Sector 71, Sector 75, Sector 76, Sector 77, Sector 78, Sector 87, Sector 97, Sector
106, Sector 105 covering a distance of 22 km.[10]
3. Corridor III : Timber Market Chowk Sector 26 to Sector 38 and Dadu Majra along Purv
Marg and Vikas Marg covering a distance of approximately 14.6 km.
4. Corridor – IV: Housing Board Chowk to Sector 21 Panchkula, via Panchkula Sector
17,16,15,14, & 21 covering a distance of 5 km.
