BOM Summary
The Bill of Material is produced in the ProposalWorks format.

ProposalWorks is Rockwell Automation’s catalog number and proposal generation software. Users can build
complete quotes, proposals and get a wealth of product information for Rockwell Automation and Encompass
Partner products. It provides an easy to use interface to make it a snap to determine the exact catalog number
for the item you need and to access current list pricing. The software automatically selects the appropriate
informational documents, photos, etc. for selected products and provides you the ability to include them easily
in a word document. In addition, users can use the other specified functions such as Spare Parts generator,
Agreement Pricing and much more.

You may also use ProposalWorks as a launch pad for other Product Selection Toolbox applications. Users can
combine existing ProposalWorks information with different Product Selection Toolbox elements to help
generate a more comprehensive proposal document with ease.

The CCAT generated base BOM contains products that are well suited most common applications. To potentially
enhance your design, the designer can use ProposalWorks to review a wide range of products with features that
may fit the application even better. For example, the Micro800 Programmable Logic Controller line offers a wide
range of options for base controllers, plug-in modules and expansion I/O. Depending on the application, a
designer may be able to optimize the combination better than an automatic selection.

Notes on Micro800 PLC System selections

To help understand and evaluate the Micro800 PLC System selections presented by the CCAT, the following
outlines the decisions used during the selection process:

1. CCAT starts the evaluation by developing lists of required communications options, special plug-in
requirements, PTO requirements, Output type requirements and Input type requirements.
2. CCAT organizes the Outputs and Inputs requirements lists from the highest to the lowest usage for each
type.
3. CCAT determines the order it will evaluate the various controllers, starting with the smallest controllers
that have on-board I/O compatible with the type of I/O that are most used in the application.
4. CCAT evaluates each controller in order until it finds the smallest Controller that supports a
Controller/Plug-in/Expansion I/O combination that:
a. First, includes a controller and plug-in(s) that can handle the communications and special
functions requirements of the selected devices and functionality.
b. Second, maximizes the number of devices that are connected to on-board Controller I/O.
c. Third, maximizes the number of remaining devices that are connected to Plug-In I/O.
d. Finally, handles any remaining I/O requirements using Expansion I/O.

Notes on DeviceNet System selections
To help understand the optional DeviceNet example components included in the Micro800 PLC System
selections presented by the CCAT the following outlines the decisions used during the selection process:

1. You should read and understand the Micro800 and DeviceNet manuals, including 2080-WD013, 2080-
DNET20 Wiring Diagram User Manual”, when finalizing your DeviceNet network.
2. DeviceNet Network wiring has several different cable options. CCAT presents a list of sample wiring
components based on the KwikLink Lite Flat Media option. Adjust the cable type and accessories if
needed to match your application.
3. The BOM includes individual components for a simple one controller and one remote device system.
Adjust the numbers and add additional components to match your application.

Notes on High Speed Counter System selections

To help understand the High Speed Counters, (embedded I/O and Plug-in based), included in the Micro800 PLC
System selections presented by the CCAT, the following outlines the decisions used during the selection process:

1. You should read and understand the Micro800 and High Speed Counter manuals, including 2080-
WD012, “Micro800 High Speed Counter Plug-In Manual”, when finalizing your Connected Component
system design.
2. The High Speed Counter Module Plug-in modules offer higher speed functionality than the embedded
inputs based High Speed Counters. Review the split between the two to ensure that the available HSC
allocations meet your speed requirements. If they do not, you may need to add additional High Speed
Counter Plug-in modules.
3. High Speed Counters are assigned to the embedded PLC Inputs and to Plug-in HSC modules by a system
that balances other Input and Plug-in requirements. It generally adds plug-in modules before moving to
a Controller with larger I/O counts. Review the system to ensure the allocation meets your application
needs.

CAD Summary
The CAD drawings are provided to speed the design of the CAD documentation of a system. They include
example drawings of the system and individual products to allow the user to quickly and easily add their
machine specific wiring without have to spend time drawing the basic components and wiring connections.

They are provided with an individual sub-folder for each drawing format that was selected for Generation.
There may be more drawings included in one sub-folder than another as some formats require 2 drawings
where only 1 is needed for others. Another difference arises when a particular voltage type is not commonly
used with a certain drawing format.

Each CAD sub-folder contains System drawings and individual product drawings related to the products
selected when using the system design assistant functionality. Note that, when appropriate, the drawing
titles include the names entered in the CCAT.

The drawings include:

 schematic drawings for wiring and
 3D modules for panel layout.

The wiring schematics are available in 2 types:

 System and Individual Product drawings and
 Circuit Library additions.

The System and Individual Product drawings are the base drawings used to start the drawing set.
 The base system design is started using the Power and Control wiring schematic drawings that are
included to match the Line and Control Voltage selected. Panel layout and enclosure drawings, as
well as common system product footprints are also included.
 Individual Product drawings for the selected Products are included. They may include both wiring
and product footprint drawings. For example, for each variable frequency drive that is included in a
system, 3 individual drawings are included, a drawing showing the power and control wiring, a
drawing showing the network connections and a drawing providing the footprints of the drives.

The Circuit Library additions are designed to easily add wiring examples to the CAD software library function.
 The Circuit Library can then be used to include product related wiring to the appropriate individual
drawings.
 For example, 2 Circuit Library additions are available to add the Input and Output connections
between Starters and the Controller I/O terminals onto the supplied Controller I/O drawing.

Controller
This section is where the controller and plug-ins properties are specified and is also where system properties
such as network addresses are specified. Use this section to configure the position of any plug-ins.

Programs
Sets of associated control program are contained in individual Programs for ease of understanding and
manipulation. There are 3 sets of programs that are typically included in each project.

1 - Optional Machine Control programs

These optional programs provide a State Machine based Machine Control example. They provide a
popular control structure based on industry standards, and can be used as the basis of the machine
operational code. If preferred, they can be used as a template as the user develops their own machine
control code and interfaces it to the Application and Product related programs. The “MC_StateMachine”

program provides the basic state diagram structure and the 6 “App_...” programs provide the locations
for the user to add the code used to initiate machine functions such as Run and Stop.

2 - Application Example programs

The Generate function will include application example code for many individual products to provide a
template for common applications. Some products include multiple application programs to choose
from. We recommend that the user select the pieces of application code that best fit their needs from
the individual programs and place them into one machine specific application program. If desired you
can then delete the application example programs.

3 - Status and Command programs for the selected products

Where appropriate, the Project will include a Status and Command program for individual products.
These programs will be identified by including the names assigned to those products in the CCAT. The
programs will perform the communications, transfer commands, monitor the status and interface with
the application example rungs, and the HMI screens.

Global Variables
The Global Variables contain all variables used to communicate between the various programs, and between the
provided programs and the machine specific programming. They include system variables and individual product
variables, with the individual product variables using the product names.

User Defined Function Blocks

The User Defined Function Block (UDFB) section holds UDFB’s that were developed to provide often used
functionality and makes them available for both the provided programs and any machine specific programming.
These UDFB’s should not be changed for individual applications.

HMI properties
Double click on the HMI icon to open the section where the HMI settings are specified. Use this section to adjust
HMI and network settings. Besides opening the settings, it will allow access to the rest of the HMI parameters
and screens.

HMI tags
The HMI tags section contains lists of the tags used in the system. It includes the links between the HMI tags
used for the screens and the controller variables and HMI system status tags.

HMI screens
HMI screens are provided to simplify machine monitoring and interaction. There are 2 types of screens that are
typically included in each project, Machine Overview and Status and Command HMI Screens for the selected
products.

1 - Machine Overview HMI screens

These optional screens provide Machine Control operator interface. While set up to interface with the
optional State Diagram based programs, they can easily be adapted to work with the users’ machine
control code. The “MC_StateMachine” program provides the basic state diagram structure. The

“MC_Machine Overview” screen, “MC_MachineFunctions” screen and “MC_MachineMonitor screen
provide commonly used operations for machine control. For example the “MC_MachineFunctions”
screen provides an overview of the status of the selected products and allows 1 button access to a
detailed screen for each device.

2 - Status and Command HMI Screens for the selected products

Where appropriate, the Project will include a Status and Command screen and Fault_Help screen for
individual products. These screens will be identified by including the names assigned to those products
in the System Design Assistant. The screens will display the most relevant parameters and the status of
the associated devices. It will offer manual operations useful during startup and troubleshooting and will
display fault information. They will offer 1 button access to a detailed error code and diagnostic
information screen for the associated device.
