1/17/2018 Getting Started

Beginning in January 2018, Come, Follow Me—For Melchizedek

Priesthood and Relief Society will be used throughout the
Church and will bring changes to our Sunday meetings:

Our rst-Sunday meeting will be a time to counsel together

about our responsibilities, needs, and challenges as we do
the work of the Lord.

On second- through fourth-Sundays, instead of a new

Teachings of Presidents of the Church manual, we will focus on
teaching messages from the most recent general conference
and a topic selected by our general Church leaders.

To help leaders and members prepare for these changes,

units may review together the new resources in the Gospel
Library app, on lds.org at comefollowme.lds.org, and in the
conference issues of the Ensign and Liahona.

For example, they could:

Spend some time in an upcoming stake or ward council

looking over the resources together and discussing what
may be di erent (see reverse for suggested discussion
questions).

Invite ward councils to suggest topics for rst-Sunday

council meetings that will help meet the needs of the ward.
Priesthood and Relief Society leaders can decide when and
how their organization will address these needs.

Introduce and discuss the new resources during an

upcoming quorum, group, or Relief Society meeting. What
can each member do to be prepared for these changes?

Encourage priesthood and Relief Society teachers and

leaders to attend teacher council meetings to share and
discuss their experiences, challenges, and questions about
the new resources.

DISCUSSION GUIDE

Invite leaders and members to review Come, Follow Me—For

Melchizedek Priesthood and Relief Society in the Gospel Library
app or in the conference issue of the Ensign or Liahona.

1. What stands out to them?

2. What do they see that will lead to changes in our Sunday

meetings?

3. What questions do they have?

As you review with Church members and leaders, the

following principles and questions may help:

Principle: Counsel together about the Lord’s

work.
What is the di erence between a council meeting and a
lesson or class?

What bene ts will come as we counsel about topics that are

relevant to our members?

How can our council meetings lead to greater action? (For

ideas about the work the Lord would have us do, see
Handbook 2: Administering the Church, 7.1, 7.8.1, 9.1.1, 9.4.1.)

Principle: Learn from and act on messages

from general conference.

How will high priests groups, elders quorums, and Relief

Societies be blessed by a greater focus on messages from
general conference?

What have we learned as we have worked with Come, Follow

Me for youth and Teaching in the Savior’s Way that can help
us?

What can members and leaders do to make this new

curriculum successful?

Members and leaders should continue to counsel with each

other and with the Lord as they seek to implement these
important changes.
