The mining industry is constantly challenged by ever changing operating condi-

tions requiring that the mine site environmental engineer can adequately pre-
sent to management the implications of any operating parameter in the sys-
tem.

A new fully parametric water and ionic balance program has been developed
for the management of water and contaminants associated with the mining
activities. The user simply creates the flow sheet using the program, enters
the parameters of each element and completes the process by establishing
the flow of the fluids. No programming is required. The program is Excel based
and requires no knowledge of programming as icons are used to define the
flow sheet. The program assists the user in managing mine related water
management issues and permits the user to adapt quickly the changing situa-
tion at any mining operation. Technical assistance is offered with the pur-
chase of the software. The program has been designed as a tool for the engi-
neer or technician that wishes to simulate the risks associated with an exist-
ing or future operating strategy.

Features of the Tool

The program considers cyclic nature of a mine site and

storm events may be simulated. Snowmelts may also be
simulated. Can simulate over several seasons to identify
trends

Basic water treatment concepts included.

The tailings dam can filled with solids to simulate a

real world situation. The evaporation and precipitation
associated with these structures is based on the water-
shed and the actual elevations of the water and solids
present in the tailings pond
