Key Points/Questions/Vocab/Main Idea Notes

Weather- The daily condition of the atmosphere which
includes temperature and precipitation.

Precipitation- Moisture that fails from the

sky.rain,snow,sleet,and and hail.

Climate- Average weather. Measured over an extended

period of time.

The farther from the equator-the colder and

Latitude- drierit becomes. direct rays are always between
the tropics. Indirect sun rays.

Northern hemisphere, cold air from the polar

Air masses-
regions comes from north.hot air from the
south, mountains to the north of a city could
block the cold block the cold air from reaching
the city.

Continentality- Water moderates climate. Water takes longer to

heat and cool than land.areas inland.

Elevation- It gets colder as you go up a mountain.the

formula for vertical climate:temperature
decreases 3.5 f for every 1,000 feet increase in
elvation
Mountain barriers-
Mountains can stop storms and air masses.
Mountains are also responsible for the
orographic effect;wind containing moisture hits
the windward side of mountain(the side facing
the wind )after the precipitation the clouds have
no moisture and are able to rise over.

Ocean currents- Cold currents are dry. Warm currents are wet

Pressure and prevailing winds -
