Program Area 4.5: Agriculture
The result that East Africa expects to achieve under Result Level Two and Program Area 4.5 is to
enhance productivity of agricultural and natural resources management, through improving agriculture
enabling environment and sector productivity.
The results of this Element will be measured using the following standard indicators:
Number of individuals who have received USG supported short-term agricultural enabling
environment training as a result of USG assistance
Our partners are working towards achieving their targets on reaching key milestones for improving the
policy environment to reduce barriers to regional agricultural development and trade. Progress will be
made on the development of a common regional policy and regulatory framework for biosafety.
Short-term training is supported through this element. Training on policy research and advocacy on
seed harmonization built the capacity of regional and national groups. Grain traders will be trained on
rules of trade and how to organize farmers to meet regional standards; and stakeholders in the coffee
industry will learn how to better inform policy changes that would improve the sector.
