Wood River Land Trust
Morels
T his summer, we are continuing our Trout Friendly Lawn program to pro-
mote yard care practices that minimize adverse effects on our water and
fish. Choices about backyard plantings, lawn irrigation, and fertilizers all affect
the health of the aquifer and the Big Wood River. During our hot desert sum-
with locally-raised, organic mers, heavy lawn irrigation impacts the amount of water in the river. Chemicals
and fertilizers can also enter the aquifer and have negative effects on fish.
Lava Lake Lamb at Changing your lawn care practices to keep our River healthy, protect fish,
and keep our water clean will make your yard “greener” whether you have a

Trout Friendly Lawn can save you money on your water bill, but in any yard it
can result in better looking plants and lower long-term costs to maintain your
plantings. Trout Friendly steps include:
n Conducting an irrigation inspection in your yard
n Upgrading irrigation systems to improve efficiency
n Using organic fertilizers
n Planting native or drought tolerant plants.

Read Our First-Ever Annual Report Online!

O ur success this past year—nearly doubling the number of acres we have protected in 2007 and beginning
our 14th year protecting land, water, and wildlife habitat in the Wood River Valley—led us to create our
first-ever annual report. The report describes our conservation successes in 2007, outlines our goals for 2008,
and summarizes our finances for the last year. In an effort to save our natural resources, we have opted to
publish the report electronically rather than use traditional printing methods. You can visit the report on the
“Resources” page of our website—www.woodriverlandtrust.org/resources—beginning June 15th.
