2 Overview
Generally, an operator purchases the HSDPA code license of each cell in accordance
with the number of codes. For example, 5 codes, 10 codes, or 15 codes as a set, the
code is SF=16 HS-DSCH channelized code. If the number of codes is different, the peak
bit rate is also different. Therefore, the operator may purchase the HSDPA code license
in accordance with the development of the data service, rather than buying the entire
15-code license to effectively reduce the operation cost.
Assume that the operator purchases the HSDPA license of each cell by 5 or 10 codes.
Because the transient load of each cell in a base station is different, there will be a case
that the data requirement of one cell is very high and exceeds the peak bit rate of 5 or 10
codes, while the data requirement of other cells is very low and the 5 or 10 codes cannot
be used thoroughly.
With this feature, the HSDPA code license can be shared among different cells. In the
above scenario, the light load cell may lend its code license to the heavy load cells. As a
result, the number of the transient available HSDPA codes of a single cell exceeds the
number of codes authorized to it, but will not exceed the threshold of 15 HS-DSCH
channelized codes per cell. The total number of HS-DSCH channelized codes used by all
cells does not exceed the total number of codes license authorized to all cells.
The ZTE UTRAN device allows the authorized code resources to be shared among all
cells which support HSDPA and DCH in a Node B, that is, the HS-DSCH channelized
code license of these cells can be used accumulatively.

3 Technical Descriptions
The conditions to start code sharing between cells and the strategy of code sharing
between cells are described as follows.
When the multiple cells supporting R99 and HSDPA services belong to the same Node B,
a number of HS-PDSCHs can be shared among several cells, which makes good use of
the Node B hardware resources and reduces the CAPEX. If the following conditions are
satisfied, the function of code sharing among cells is enabled, namely the code resource
can be shared among cells.
All the cells for sharing in a Node B support R99 and HSDPA services, that is, the
parameter UUtranCellFDD.hspaSptMeth is set to ―1: Support HSDPA and DCH‖ or
―3: Support HSUPA, HSDPA and DCH‖;
The parameter UIubLink.hsSharMethod for the Node B is set to ―1: RNC Control‖;
Note:
The method for channelization code allocation for downlink HS-PDSCH is described in
the ZTE UMTS HSDPA Introduction Feature Guide.
The principle of code sharing between cells is that the maximum number of
channelization code allocation for HS-PDSCH in a shared cell is adjusted based on the
sum of the GBR and the NBR of all the services in a cell.
The maximum number of channelization codes for each of the cells sharing the code
resource for HS-PDSCH is calculated periodically or when the shared cells are modified.
The period is configured by UIubLink.hsSharUptPrd.
The steps for allocating the shared codes are described as follows:
TotalHsNum= ;
Where n denotes the number of all the shared cells, MaxHsNumbyOMCi denotes
the maximum number of HS-PDSCHs in the i:th cell for sharing and is configured by
UCHspa.maxNumofHspdsch.
ShareHsNum =TotalHsNum – ;
ShareHsNu ;
Where,
ShareHsNu ShareHsNu
;
(j=1,...,n-1); where MaxNumofHsj is obtained in step 4, and there is no
remaining HS-PDSCHs for sharing when ShareHsNu , the numbers
of HS-PDSCHs for the remaining cells are MinHspdschNumbyOmcj+1.
HsGBRSumj denotes the sum of GBR for all the HSDPA services in j:th cell;
HsNBRSumj denotes the sum of NBR for all the HSDPA services in j:th cell;
HSDPA services in the j:th cell to the sum of GBR and NBR of all HSDPA
services in all the cells waiting for the allocation of the shared HS-PDSCHs.
MaxNumofHsj=Max(MinHspdschNumbyOmc, Min(MaxNumofHsSharej,
MaxHspdschNumbyUecatj, MaxHspdschNumbyMBRj, 15));
by the sum of maximum bit rate of the ongoing HSDPA services in the j:th
cell. Refer to the ZTE UMTS HSDPA Introduction Feature Guide for details.

6 Engineering Guide
Generally, an operator purchases the HSDPA code license of each cell in accordance
with the number of codes. If the operator purchases the HSDPA license of each cell and
the number of codes is less than 15, the traffic in one cell may be very high during peak
hours and the demand exceeds the peak bit rate of 5 or 10 codes, while the traffic in the
other cells is very low and the 5 or 10 codes cannot be fully used. With this feature, the
HSDPA codes can be shared among different cells. In the above scenario, the light-load
cell may lend its code license to the heavy-load cells. As a result, the transient available
HSDPA codes of a single cell exceed the number of codes authorized to it and the
throughput in the cell increases. It is suggested to enable the feature to improve the user
experience and resource utilization when the purchased HSDPA code license is less
than 15.
The purpose of this chapter is just to guide the reader how to find the GUI location of the
parameters which are related to the deployment of this feature. The values indicated by
the captures possibly are not the real value to be configured. Please refer to the last
column of table in chapter 4 for the practical configuration value.

Advantages:
This feature can utilize the purchased HS-PDSCH codes effectively. The transient
available HSDPA codes of a single cell can exceed the number of codes authorized to it,
thus the code utilization and HSDPA downlink throughput are improved.
