Whiskey is a distilled alcoholic beverage made from fermented grain mash. Different grains are
used for different varieties of whiskey, including: barley, malted barley, rye, malted rye, wheat,
buckwheat, and corn. Whiskeys are then aged in wooden casks.
Types of whiskey:
Rye: Rye whiskey is made from mash that contains at least 51% rye.
-Whistle Pig Farm 10 Year Rye: 100 proof, straight rye whiskey, aged for at least 10
years through a unique double barrel process.
-Catoctin Creek Roundstone Rye: An aroma of sweetness, vanilla, spice, and leather.
Spicy up front in the taste followed by round sweetness in the middle and a spicy finish.
Nice warmth in the taste and finish.
-Jame E. Pepper 1776 Rye: Vibrant and full bodied. Notes of spice, chocolate, cloves and
honey.
-High West Double Rye: Marriage of two straight rye whiskies that combines the feisty
properties of a high rye 2-year old and the saddle smooth richness of a 16-year old rye.
Bourbon: Bourbon is made from a mash that contains at least 51% corn.
-Angels Envy: Kentucky straight bourbon whiskey aged in port wine barrels
-Knobb Creek: Takes over your palate with big notes of oak, caramel, and fruit.
-Woodford Reserve: Kentucky straight bourbon whiskey, Woodford Reserve isn’t
manufactured its hand crafted in small batches.
-Bulleit Bourbon: Smooth, medium amber in color, with gentle spiciness and sweet oak
aromas.
-Willet Family Pot Still Reserve 94: Very floral on the nose with wonderful citrus notes;
more citrus on the palate with loads of honey, and then turning floral in the finish
-Pricahrd’s Double Chocolate Bourbon: Sweet notes of vanilla and honey. Initial palate
is rich and flavorful, with touches of caramel, butterscotch, vanilla and toffee.
Malt: Made from mash that contains at least 51% malted barley. There are many different types
of malt whiskey, we will be focusing on single malt whiskey. Single malt whiskey is from a
single distillery and is made from mash that uses 1 particular malted grain. Single malts usually
bear the name of the distillery and they come with an age statement and notes on any special
treatment the whiskey received.
-Corsair Triple Smoke: Takes three fractions of malted barley, each smoked by a different
fuel, cherry wood, peat, and beechwood.
-Wasmund’s Single Malt Whiskey: Combines the best of the grand tradition of single
malt whiskey with creative and unique innovations for aging and flavoring.
-Oban 14 Year Malt: The nose is rich and smoky. There are notes of cut hay and wood
smoke rising with gentle estery sweetness.

originally
made
from

barley.

Scotch
whisky

statement
on
a
bo;le
of
Scotch
whisky,
expressed
in
numerical
form,
must
reflect
the
age
of
the
youngest
whisky
used
to
produce
that
product.
A
whisky
with
an
age
statement
is
known
as
guaranteed-‐age
whisky.
