Intro to 4o day lent prayers.
This is a small prayer diary to use through lent. You can add your own prayers but use
these as a guid as well, if you just say these short prayers then that would be great. They
may well repeat the prayers, we are a small church with limited things happening. This
will give you prayers to use word for word or you can look at the subject and use it as part
of your prayer time. I encourage you to use it as much as you can and we wait in
expectation to see some of the results of this prayer diary. There is also a Psalm to read for

each day.

You will also see images and these are for the purpose to reflect on the prayer for each day.

14th February Ash Wednesday.

in this. Lord the disciples asked you how to pray and we use the prayer that was taught.

Our Father, which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy Name.Thy Kingdom come. Thy will be done in
earth, As it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, As we
forgive them that trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, But deliver us from evil.
For thine is the kingdom, The power, and the glory, For ever and ever. Amen.
16th Feb.
Psalm 27 : 1 - 14

The Lord is my light and my salvation whom shall I fear? The Lord is the stronghold of
my life of whom shall I be afraid? One thing I ask from the Lord, this only do I seek: that I
may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life, to gaze on the beauty of the Lord
and to seek him in his temple. I will sing and make music to the Lord. Hear my voice when
I call, Lord; be merciful to me and answer me. Wait for the Lord; be strong and take heart
and wait for the Lord.

Psalm 29 : 1 - 11

Ascribe to the Lord, you heavenly beings, ascribe to the Lord glory and strength. Ascribe
to the Lord the glory due his name; worship the Lord in the splendour of his holiness. The
voice of the Lord is over the waters; the God of glory thunders, the Lord thunders over the
mighty waters. The voice of the Lord is powerful; the voice of the Lord is majestic. The
voice of the Lord breaks the cedars; the Lord breaks in pieces the cedars of Lebanon. He
makes Lebanon leap like a calf, Sirion like a young wild ox. The voice of the Lord strikes
with flashes of lightning. The voice of the Lord shakes the desert; the Lord shakes the
Desert of Kadesh. The voice of the Lord twists the oaks and strips the forests bare. And in

enemies turn back; they stumble and perish before you. For you have upheld my right and
my cause, sitting enthroned as the righteous judge. You have rebuked the nations and
destroyed the wicked; you have blotted out their name for ever and ever. Endless ruin has
overtaken my enemies, you have uprooted their cities; even the memory of them has
perished. The Lord reigns forever; he has established his throne for judgment. He rules

For look, the wicked bend their bows; they set their arrows against the strings to shoot
from the shadows at the upright in heart. When the foundations are being destroyed, what
can the righteous do?” For the Lord is righteous, he loves justice; the upright will see his
face.

from you I have no good thing.” Lord, you alone are my portion and my cup; you make my
lot secure. The boundary lines have fallen for me in pleasant places; surely I have a
delightful inheritance. I will praise the Lord, who counsels me; even at night my heart
instructs me. I keep my eyes always on the Lord. With him at my right hand, I will not be
shaken. Therefore my heart is glad and my tongue rejoices; my body also will rest secure,

Psalm 18 : 1 - 6, 16 - 19, 46 - 50

I love you, Lord, my strength. The Lord is my rock, my fortress and my deliverer;

my God is my rock, in whom I take refuge, my shield and the horn of my salvation, my
stronghold. I called to the Lord, who is worthy of praise, and I have been saved from my
enemies. The cords of death entangled me; the torrents of destruction overwhelmed me.
The cords of the grave coiled around me; the snares of death confronted me. In my
distress I called to the Lord; I cried to my God for help. From his temple he heard my
voice; my cry came before him, into his ears. He reached down from on high and took hold
of me; he drew me out of deep waters. He rescued me from my powerful enemy, from my
foes, who were too strong for me. They confronted me in the day of my disaster, but the
Lord was my support. He brought me out into a spacious place; he rescued me because he
delighted in me. The Lord lives! Praise be to my Rock!Exalted be God my Saviour!

The Lord lives! Praise be to my Rock! Exalted be God my Saviour! He is the God who
avenges me, who subdues nations under me, who saves me from my enemies. You exalted
me above my foes; from a violent man you rescued me.Therefore I will praise you, Lord,
among the nations; I will sing the praises of your name. He gives his king great victories;
he shows unfailing love to his anointed, to David and to his descendants forever.

I will exalt you, Lord, for you lifted me out of the depths and did not let my enemies gloat
over me. Lord my God, I called to you for help, and you healed me. You, Lord, brought me
up from the realm of the dead; you spared me from going down to the pit. Sing the praises
of the Lord, you his faithful people; praise his holy name. When I felt secure, I said, “I will
never be shaken.” Lord, when you favoured me, you made my royal mountain stand firm.
You turned my wailing into dancing; you removed my sackcloth and clothed me with joy,
that my heart may sing your praises and not be silent. Lord my God, I will praise you
forever.

Prayer
Lord we prayer the continuing vision of the Church that it would continue to be relevant
and that the vision would come into fruition. As it says in your word we ask that we would
have the vision to extend our tent pegs and ropes, lord that we would have expectant
hearts.
25th Feb.
Psalm 40 : 1 - 5

I waited patiently for the Lord; he turned to me and heard my cry. He lifted me out of the
slimy pit, out of the mud and mire; he set my feet on a rock and gave me a firm place to
stand. He put a new song in my mouth, a hymn of praise to our God. Many will see and
fear the Lord and put their trust in him. Blessed is the one who trusts in the Lord, who
does not look to the proud, to those who turn aside to false gods. Many, Lord my God, are
the wonders you have done, the things you planned for us. None can compare with you;
were I to speak and tell of your deeds, they would be too many to declare.

Prayer

your word, lord we ask that it would turn back to you, that we would see revival again.

God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble. Therefore we will not fear,
though the earth give way and the mountains fall into the heart of the sea, though its
waters roar and foam and the mountains quake with their surging. There is a river whose
streams make glad the city of God, the holy place where the Most High dwells. God is
within her, she will not fall; God will help her at break of day. The Lord Almighty is with
us; the God of Jacob is our fortress.

Prayer

Hear my cry, O God; listen to my prayer. From the ends of the earth I call to you, I call as
my heart grows faint; lead me to the rock that is higher than I. For you have been my
refuge, a strong tower against the foe. I long to dwell in your tent forever and take refuge
in the shelter of your wings. For you, God, have heard my vows; you have given me the
heritage of those who fear your name. Increase the days of the king’s life, his years for
many generations. May he be enthroned in God’s presence forever; appoint your love and
faithfulness to protect him. Then I will ever sing in praise of your name and fulfil my vows
day after day.

in your name.
28th Feb.
Psalm 66 : 1 - 20

Shout for joy to God, all the earth! Sing the glory of his name; make his praise glorious.

Say to God, “How awesome are your deeds! So great is your power that your enemies
cringe before you. All the earth bows down to you; they sing praise to you, they sing the
praises of your name.” Come and see what God has done, his awesome deeds for mankind!
He turned the sea into dry land, they passed through the waters on foot— come, let us
rejoice in him. He rules forever by his power, his eyes watch the nations— let not the
rebellious rise up against him. Praise our God, all peoples, let the sound of his praise be
heard; he has preserved our lives and kept our feet from slipping. For you, God, tested us;
you refined us like silver. You brought us into prison and laid burdens on our backs. You
let people ride over our heads; we went through fire and water, but you brought us to a
place of abundance. I will come to your temple with burnt offerings and fulfill my vows to
you— vows my lips promised and my mouth spoke when I was in trouble. I will sacrifice
fat animals to you and an offering of rams; I will offer bulls and goats. Come and hear, all
you who fear God; let me tell you what he has done for me. I cried out to him with my
mouth; his praise was on my tongue. If I had cherished sin in my heart, the Lord would
not have listened; but God has surely listened and has heard my prayer. Praise be to God,
who has not rejected my prayer or withheld his love from me!

Holy Week.

John 12 : 1 - 11

Six days before the Passover, Jesus therefore came to Bethany, where Lazarus was, whom Jesus had raised
from the dead. So they gave a dinner for him there. Martha served, and Lazarus was one of those reclining
with him at table. Mary therefore took a pound of expensive ointment made from pure nard, and anointed
the feet of Jesus and wiped his feet with her hair. The house was filled with the fragrance of the perfume. But
Judas Iscariot, one of his disciples (he who was about to betray him), said, “Why was this ointment not sold
for three hundred denarii and given to the poor?” He said this, not because he cared about the poor, but
because he was a thief, and having charge of the moneybag he used to help himself to what was put into it.
Jesus said, “Leave her alone, so that she may keep it for the day of my burial. For the poor you always have
with you, but you do not always have me.”

When the large crowd of the Jews learned that Jesus was there, they came, not only on account of him but
also to see Lazarus, whom he had raised from the dead. So the chief priests made plans to put Lazarus to
death as well, because on account of him many of the Jews were going away and believing in Jesus.

Isaiah 49 : 1 - 7

Listen to me, O coastlands, and give attention, you peoples from afar. The Lord called me from the womb,
from the body of my mother he named my name. He made my mouth like a sharp sword; in the shadow of
his hand he hid me; he made me a polished arrow; in his quiver he hid me away. And he said to me, “You are
my servant, Israel, in whom I will be glorified.” But I said, “I have laboured in vain; I have spent my
strength for nothing and vanity; yet surely my right is with the Lord, and my recompense with my God.” And
now the Lord says, he who formed me from the womb to be his servant, to bring Jacob back to him; and that
Israel might be gathered to him— or I am honoured in the eyes of the Lord, and my God has become my
strength— he says: “It is too light a thing that you should be my servant to raise up the tribes of Jacob and to
bring back the preserved of Israel; I will make you as a light for the nations, that my salvation may reach to
the end of the earth.” Thus says the Lord, the Redeemer of Israel and his Holy One, to one deeply despised,
abhorred by the nation, the servant of rulers: “Kings shall see and arise; princes, and they shall prostrate
themselves; because of the Lord, who is faithful, the Holy One of Israel, who has chosen you.”

Prayer

Almighty God, Your name is glorified even in the anguish of your Son's death. mGrant us
the courage to receive your anointed servant who embodies a wisdom and love that is
foolishness to the world. empower us in witness so that all the world may recognise in the

scandal of the cross the mystery of reconciliation. Amen.

28th March.
Hebrews 12 : 1 - 3

Therefore, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us also lay aside
every weight and the sin that clings so closely, and let us run with perseverance the race
that is set before us, looking to Jesus the pioneer and perfecter of our faith, who for the
sake of the joy that was set before him endured the cross, disregarding its shame, and has
taken his seat at the right hand of the throne of God. Consider him who endured such
hostility against himself from sinners, so that you may not grow weary or lose heart.

Prayer

Christ our God, your love is poured out in death for our sakes. Hold us in your embrace as
we wait for Easter's dawn. Comfort us with the promise that no power on earth, not even
death itself, can separate us from your love; and strengthen us to wait until you are
revealed to us in all your risen glory. Amen.

1 Corinthians 11 : 23 - 26

For I received from the Lord what I also delivered to you, that the Lord Jesus on the night
when he was betrayed took bread, and when he had given thanks, he broke it, and said,
“This is my body, which is for you. Do this in remembrance of me.” In the same way also
he took the cup, after supper, saying, “This cup is the new covenant in my blood. Do this,
as often as you drink it, in remembrance of me.” For as often as you eat this bread and
drink the cup, you proclaim the Lord's death until he comes.

Prayer
Eternal God, in the sharing of a meal your son established a new covenant for all people,
and in the washing of feet he showed us the dignity of service. Grant that by the power of
your Holy Spirit these signs of our life in faith may speak again to our hearts, feed our
spirits, and refresh our bodies. Amen
30th March
Isaiah 52 : 13 - 53 : 12

Behold, my servant shall act wisely; he shall be high and lifted up, and shall be exalted. As many were
astonished at you— his appearance was so marred, beyond human semblance, and his form beyond that of
the children of mankind— so shall he sprinkle many nations. Kings shall shut their mouths because of him,
for that which has not been told them they see, and that which they have not heard they understand. Who
has believed what he has heard from us? And to whom has the arm of the Lord been revealed? For he grew
up before him like a young plant, and like a root out of dry ground; he had no form or majesty that we
should look at him, and no beauty that we should desire him. He was despised and rejected by men, a man
of sorrows, and acquainted with grief; and as one from whom men hide their faces he was despised, and we
esteemed him not. Surely he has borne our griefs and carried our sorrows; yet we esteemed him stricken,
smitten by God, and afflicted. But he was pierced for our transgressions; he was crushed for our iniquities;
upon him was the chastisement that brought us peace, and with his wounds we are healed. All we like sheep
have gone astray; we have turned—every one—to his own way; and the Lord has laid on him the iniquity of
us all. He was oppressed, and he was afflicted, yet he opened not his mouth; like a lamb that is led to the
slaughter, and like a sheep that before its shearers is silent, so he opened not his mouth. By oppression and
judgment he was taken away; and as for his generation, who considered that he was cut off out of the land of
the living, stricken for the transgression of my people? And they made his grave with the wicked and with a
rich man in his death, although he had done no violence, and there was no deceit in his mouth. Yet it was the
will of the Lord to crush him; he has put him to grief; when his soul makes an offering for guilt, he shall see
his offspring; he shall prolong his days; the will of the Lord shall prosper in his hand. Out of the anguish of
his soul he shall see and be satisfied; by his knowledge shall the righteous one, my servant, make many to be
accounted righteous, and he shall bear their iniquities. Therefore I will divide him a portion with the many,
and he shall divide the spoil with the strong, because he poured out his soul to death and was numbered
with the transgressors; yet he bore the sin of many, and makes intercession for the transgressors.

Prayer
We veil our faces before your glory, O Holy and Immortal one, and bow before the cross of your wounded
Christ. with angels and archangels, we praise you, our Mercy, and we bless you, our Compassion, for in our
brokenness you have not abandoned us. Hear us as we pray through Jesus, our high priest: heal all division,
reconcile the estranged, console the suffering, and raise up to new life all that is bound by death. Amen.
1st April
John 20 : 1 - 18
Now on the first day of the week Mary Magdalene came to the tomb early, while it was still
dark, and saw that the stone had been taken away from the tomb. So she ran and went to
Simon Peter and the other disciple, the one whom Jesus loved, and said to them, “They
have taken the Lord out of the tomb, and we do not know where they have laid him.” So
Peter went out with the other disciple, and they were going toward the tomb. Both of them
were running together, but the other disciple outran Peter and reached the tomb first. And
stooping to look in, he saw the linen cloths lying there, but he did not go in. Then Simon
Peter came, following him, and went into the tomb. He saw the linen cloths lying there,
and the face cloth, which had been on Jesus' head, not lying with the linen cloths but
folded up in a place by itself. Then the other disciple, who had reached the tomb first, also
went in, and he saw and believed; for as yet they did not understand the Scripture, that he
must rise from the dead. Then the disciples went back to their homes.

But Mary stood weeping outside the tomb, and as she wept she stooped to look into the
tomb. And she saw two angels in white, sitting where the body of Jesus had lain, one at the
head and one at the feet. They said to her, “Woman, why are you weeping?” She said to
them, “They have taken away my Lord, and I do not know where they have laid him.”
Having said this, she turned around and saw Jesus standing, but she did not know that it
was Jesus. Jesus said to her, “Woman, why are you weeping? Whom are you seeking?”
Supposing him to be the gardener, she said to him, “Sir, if you have carried him away, tell
me where you have laid him, and I will take him away.” Jesus said to her, “Mary.” She
turned and said to him in Aramaic, “Rabboni!” (which means Teacher). Jesus said to her,
“Do not cling to me, for I have not yet ascended to the Father; but go to my brothers and
say to them, I am ascending to my Father and your Father, to my God and your God.’”
Mary Magdalene went and announced to the disciples, “I have seen the Lord”—and that
he had said these things to her.

Prayer

Lord we thank you for the risen Christ, the one who has given this world hope and we have
a certain future in Christ.Mighty God,in whom we know the power of redemption, you
stand among us in the shadows of our time. As we move through every sorrow and trial of
this life, uphold us with knowledge of the final morning when, in the glorious presence of
your risen Son, we will share in his resurrection, redeemed and restored to the fullness of
life and forever freed to be your people. Amen.
