In university, I have realized that group work is a major part of our assessments during the

semester. The assignment was to write an oath that reflected us as future pharmacists. In our oath, we

related topics that were discussed during lectures like empathy, professionalism, ethics, morals etc. The

group members communicated via social media which was convenient and very effective. The oath was

discussed and different parts of it were allocated to each individual. Each member researched their part

thoroughly and wrote their lines of the oath and the justification for each of them. These were then

submitted to one of the group members, who pieced all the information together. The oath was then

presented to the tutor and the class.

I can honestly say that group projects are beginning to show more and more appeal to me but I

still feel as if groups are counterproductive and never show a true understanding of one person’s

knowledge on a subject. Even though communicating on social media was somewhat effective and

convenient for most of the group members, I still felt like we should’ve met in person to discuss how we

were going to present the oath but given the time constraint, this was not possible. In terms of the research

and putting the oath together, we were well organized and coordinated everything as a team but in terms

of presenting the oath we were not.

This group project’s biggest advantage was having the ability to communicate with a group on

their opinions, views, and directions. I learnt that good interpersonal relationships between the group

members enables the members to communicate more effectively and hence work together more

efficiently. When working in group, the members should adopt certain qualities like discipline,

responsibility, empathy and corporations. I also learnt that you should take as much control and

leadership as you can to ensure that you are secure about submitting an assignment you know was done to

your best expectations. To form an amazing presentation, we should’ve met at least once and collaborated

so that we could’ve delivered the message of our oath clearly and concisely.

Working effectively within groups is an important interpersonal skill that we need to develop and

continue developing throughout our lives. at university working with different people may vary and our

understanding of ourselves and how we work together with other people can be very beneficial in our
professional lives. Writing this oath made me understand, as a future pharmacist I should build and

reinforce a professional identity founded on integrity, ethical behavior and honor. This experience has

also thought me that I should work cooperatively with other pharmacists and also other health care

professionals.
