Advanced Assembly Product Page Link: Advanced Assembly Extension™
The Pro/ENGINEER® Advanced Assembly Extension (P-AAX) expands the power of Pro/ENGINEER® to allow the design and management of medium to very large assemblies,
throughout the enterprise-wide development process. It offers high-powered tools for design criteria management, top-down assembly design, large assembly management and
process planning.
These tools include:
· Skeleton models
· Simplified representations
· Interchange assemblies
· Exploded states
· Unplaced components
· Shrinkwrap models
· Geometry features
· Shrinkwrap features
· Reference Control
· Global Reference Viewer
· Layouts

These tools enhance the productivity of design teams creating and managing very large, complex product designs -- and help downstream users produce accurate lifecycle
documentation and assemble these products on the shop floor.

Specifically, advanced assembly design functionality allows designers to:

• Use a top-down approach to design Working with intuitive tools, users can quickly define and populate an assembly structure with new or existing components, collect critical
design criteria in skeleton models, and propagate these criteria throughout the assembly with Copy Geometry functions. Users can also manage the top-down design process with
Reference Control and Reference Viewing tools.
• Interchange assemblies Users can relate independent, functionally equivalent parts, so these can be easily switched in the context of a particular design – to leverage previously
created designs on new projects. Users can also create simplified interchange members. These can be substituted into a design to simplify the display, while retaining accurate
mass property information.
• Create simplified representations Users can create collections of components to facilitate managing a large assembly design. These collections can be based on rules, such as
model size, location, name, or any other model parameter. Graphics and Geometry Only Representations can also significantly improve performance by reducing the amount of
component information brought into a session.
• Associative Shrinkwrap capabilities Within the Advanced Assembly, users can produce a lightweight representation that retains complete surface and mass property information.
This "Shrinkwrapped" representation reduces the load on system resources – greatly improving performance. In addition, Shrinkwrapped designs can be passed to suppliers and
customers without distributing the proprietary design information and Shrinkwraps are associative, allowing changes to update automatically.
• Create graphical 2D assembly layouts Users can create annotations on parts and assemblies at the conceptual stage. They can also create block diagrams representing the
assembly design – including notes, global parameters, relationships, and global placement information, as well as components, constraints, requirements, and descriptions of how
the assembly must fit together.
• Complete top-down descriptions Using the 2D-assembly layout, users can create relationships in the models, linking dimensions and parameters to features and components. This
symbolic representation of the assembly can then be disseminated to all members of the design team, ensuring clear communication.
• Facilitate automatic assembly Users can create a placement correspondence among multiple components in the assembly by declaring the same axis or plane in different
components in the assembly to the layout. The software then can locate components with common declarations based on this knowledge – to automatically combine them in an
assembly.
• Manage symbolic information in a spreadsheet-style Users can create tables to document critical design information. These tables provide a top-level location for manipulating
dimensional and parametric information, which, in turn, drives the assembly design.

Advanced Mechanica Option Product Page Link: Advanced Mechanica

The comprehensive capabilities of Pro/ENGINEER Advanced Mechanica Option is ideal for sophisticated users who work with complicated models, employ complex design
processes, or want to take advantage of the broadest range of simulation functionality offered by PTC, including advanced modeling tools, special-purpose analyses, and top-down
simulation.
Key Product Features: Ability to solve: • Static analyses to compute stresses and displacements, including contact non-linear effects • Large deformation non-linearity effects in
static analyses • Pre-stress static and pre-stress modal analyses, including spin softening and stress stiffening effects • Modal solutions to compute both free and constrained
natural frequencies • Vibration analyses including dynamic frequency, time, random, and shock • Buckling analysis capabilities to compute critical buckling load factors • Steady-
state thermal analyses to evaluate a model's reaction to applied thermal loading and boundary constraints • Non-linear transient thermal analyses to model time-varying thermal
events such as the time required for a model to reach a steady state • 2D idealized model types including plane stress, plane strain, 2D plate, 2D unit depth, and axisymmetric. In
addition, analysts can perform coupled a thermal-structural analysis, applying the results from the thermal analysis as a load for a static analysis.

Pro/ENGINEER Advanced Mechanica Option also contains a robust library of tools that allow engineers to rapidly build simulation models. These tools include: • Weld connections,
including spot, end, and perimeter • Advanced spring and mass idealizations • Rigid connections • Advanced shells with properties such as laminate lay-ups • Engineering loads
and constraints such as bearing loads and cyclic symmetry constraints • Rigid and weighted links for use with NASTRAN • Isotropic, orthotropic, and anisotropic materials support.

In addition, Advanced Mechanica Option provides engineers the flexibility of selecting other solvers via its FEM mode. In FEM mode, analysts can output, solve, and post-process
models in either NASTRAN or ANSYS. Also, because Advanced Mechanica Option uses a single simulation model and database, analysts can switch between using the
Mechanica-based solver and FEM mode solvers with no need to recreate modeling entities (properties, loads, etc.).
Hierarchical Meshing in FEM Mode: Why shouldn’t analysts have the same flexibility in constructing system level analysis models using concurrent and top-down design
methodologies that CAD designers apply on a daily basis? With Pro/ENGINEER Advanced Mechanica Option, they do. Hierarchical meshing lets analysts define the analysis model
at lower levels of the assembly structure (including properties, the finite element mesh, data recovery points, etc.). These definitions are then rolled up into the higher-level
assemblies. This way, analysts can divide the workload for the creation of large analysis models and make more extensive re-use of analysis data.

automatically explore all design variations and drive geometry to solve engineering problems and optimize designs. Includes the ability to manage many variables and even
multiple conflicting goals. This product is an extension which is locked to the prerequisite package and does not float independently.
About Behavioral Modeling
Behavioral Modeling contains a set of tools for performing a wide variety of analyses on a model and incorporating the analysis results into the model. Behavioral Modeling lets you
modify the model design to reflect the desired solution.
You use the Behavioral Modeling tools to:
· Create feature parameters based on measurements and analyses of the model.
· Create datum geometry based on measurements and analyses of the model.
· Create new types of measurements tailored to your specific needs.
· Analyze the behavior of measured parameters as dimensions vary.
· Automatically find the dimension values that achieve a desired behavior of the model.
The basic building blocks of Behavioral Modeling are:
· Analysis feature
· Field point
· User-Defined Analysis (UDA)
· Persistent Display
· Sensitivity, Feasibility, and Optimization Studies
· External Analysis
· Motion Analysis
· Multi-Objective Design studies
About the Multi-Objective Design Study
A Multi-Objective Design study helps you find optimal solutions that satisfy several design criteria (design goals). For example, you can investigate possible shapes of a part that let
you maintain the part mass and location of the center of gravity within a desired range.
A Multi-Objective Design study provides the following benefits:
· The study helps you find an optimal range of design variables that is most suitable for searching for optimal solutions.
· The study finds solutions for multiple design objectives that may be contradictory in nature.
· If more than one optimal solution exist, the study presents you with the results so you can choose the preferred solution.
· You can expand the range for sampling design goals, or you can narrow it down by using different methods for analyzing the data obtained in the experiments.
Working with the Multi-Objective Design Study
A Multi-Objective Design study consists of a master table and derived tables in their hierarchical order. Initially, the study lets you examine an entire range in which design variables
are allowed to change. The result of the initial investigation is the master table that lists records of all experiments. You can then narrow down the focus of the study by creating
derived tables so you can examine the behavior of the model with a subset of constrained values for design goals or design variables.
You can access any of the tables through the Table Tree to examine its results. You can also edit a table by altering its conditions with the Edit command. After you have examined
your findings, you can expand the master table by specifying additional experiments to be conducted within the range designated for the study. To expand the master table, use the
Expand command.
You can save a study to disk with the Save command and then open it later when you return to the model. Saving a study saves all table data.
Note: The system saves the Table Tree within the model. If you do not save the model, the Table Tree is lost – only a text file with the master table is saved to the hard disk.

About the Associative Topology Bus (ATB)
· The ATB creates the environment for working with a heterogeneous assembly. A heterogeneous assembly contains components that were originally created in different CAD
systems, such as Pro/ENGINEER and CADDS 5. With Associative Topology Bus you can share geometry, topology, and assembly structure among systems in an associative
manner, without having the originating application loaded on your desktop system.
· When you use Associative Topology Bus, changes made to data within the original system are propagated throughout the heterogeneous environment.

Complete Machining Option Product Page Link: NC Advanced Machining

This option, which includes Production Machining Option, provides NC programming capabilities to create, verify, and optimize programs for all machine types: 2 1/2- to 5-axis
milling (including continuous multi-axis), 2- to 4-axis turning, mill/turn machines (live tooling) and 2- to 4-axis wire EDM. The option is a comprehensive NC Programming
environment, providing NC Simulation, NC post-processing, process documentation tools, and a tooling library. This product is an option which means it can float independently of
any prerequisites.

Computer Aided Verification Computer Aided Verification

This option provides the capabilities to inspect the quality of machined, cast, or molded parts and assemblies. It creates programs for CMM (coordinate measuring machines)
machines, based on the Pro/ENGINEER® design model, tolerances and g-tols. Additionally, for parts with free form geometry, it compares scanned point cloud data from a
manufactured part to the Pro/ENGINEER® design model. This product is an option which means it can float independently of any prerequisites.
The computer-aided verification option enables manufacturers to inspect parts, produced in-house or by a supplier, by automatically comparing scanned point-cloud data from the
manufactured part to the Pro/ENGINEER solid model. The manufactured part is scanned using any scanning technology to generate x, y, z location information that defines the
part. This point cloud can then be used to make a comparison with the theoretical model. The difference between the Pro/ENGINEER model and the point data can be generated
either graphically, as a color deviation plot, or as a point file that shows the deviation between the design part and the manufactured part.

Design Animation Product Page Link: Design Animation™ Option

The Pro/ENGINEER Design Animation (DAO) is a tool for creating animation sequences using Pro/ENGINEER® parts, assemblies and mechanisms. DAO can animate mechanisms
previously created in Behavioral Modeler Extension and Mechanism Design Extension. It differs from Mechanism Design Extension (MDX), Mechanism Dynamics Option (MDO) and
Behavioral Modeling Extension (BMX) in that Design Animation can create animation sequences without joints or drivers. These sequences are not necessarily kinematically correct, but
convey complex information in an easily understood animated format.

The Pro/ENGINEER Design Animation Option is an option to Pro/ENGINEER-Foundation

DAO allows users to create powerful animation sequences to communicate ideas, concepts and other information regarding a product design more efficiently than using written
descriptions or drawings. Applications include assembly and disassembly sequences, maintenance procedures or product concepts. DAO integrates with MDX to add mechanism
simulation to DAO.
Benefits: Tool for the design engineer to communicate engineering process information via animation; easy to learn and use during the design process; inherits and re-uses design
intent from MDX; create assembly, maintenance and mechanism sequences; access from the familiar Pro/E user interface; associative to Pro/E single product model.

About Animation
Use the Application>Animation command to invoke the Design Animation option. With Design Animation, you can coordinate the components of an animation sequence and play
back an animation. When you select this command, a timeline window appears below the graphics window, and a toolbar appears below the Pro/ENGINEER toolbar. You can run,
create, and manage your animation using the menu commands, the toolbar buttons, or the timeline window.
You can use Design Animation to:
· visualize your assembly's operation. If you have the concept, but have not defined the mechanics, you can drag bodies to different positions and take snapshots to create an
animation.
· create an assembly or disassembly sequence animation of your model
· create a maintenance sequence, a short animation of steps to take to instruct a user in how to repair or build a product
For an introduction and overview of the Design Animation module, and for typical steps to take to create an animation, see the Design Animation Concepts Guide online document.

Fatigue Advisor Product Page Link: Fatigue Advisor

Pro/MECHANICA Fatigue Advisor allows engineers to predict and improve the fatigue performance of their designs early in the product lifecycle. This can reduce design iteration
and costly test programs on multiple prototypes.
Because Fatigue Advisor is a fully integrated with Pro/ENGINEER, a user could perform a design study to minimize the weight of a design whilst maintaining the fatigue life within a
predefined range. Multi-disciplinary design studies can also be performed using a combination of fatigue, static, vibration and thermal design goals or limits.

Import Data Doctor Product Page Link: Import Data Doctor

The Import Data Doctor Option provides advanced tools that automate the process of cleaning up imported geometry. Import Data Doctor includes a constraint manager allowing
the user to place constraints on the imported geometry, as well as "collapse geometry" capability for better surface management.
The Pro/ENGINEER Import Data Doctor Option (P-DDO) allows users to repair imported geometric data more easily -- to provide valid Pro/ENGINEER® geometry for downstream
applications. It provides tools for automating the cleanup process as well as a Constraint Manager for constraining or collapsing imported geometry for better surface management.
All of these tools dramatically reduce the time required to manually clean up an imported or legacy model and Import Data Doctor does not require users to have any experience to
achieve good results.
Automated surface cleanup: By performing some of the more tedious and repetitive tasks associated with redefining imported geometry, Import Data Doctor minimizes users’
interaction while still providing them with complete control over the process to maintain design intent and engineering requirements. Based on a user’s input, the system will
automatically reconstruct the underlying wireframe of the imported geometry, close gaps, align vertices, and rebuild boundaries.

Interactive Surface Design ProductPage Link: Pro/ENGINEER Interactive Surface Design

Pro/ENGINEER Interactive Surface Design represents the ultimate integration of design and engineering. By combining the power of parametric modeling with the flexibility of free
form surfacing, this powerful module allows designers and engineers to create complex, free form curves and surfaces, directly in an intuitive and interactive design environment.

With Pro/ENGINEER Interactive Surface Design, designers can start conceptually by developing geometry from scratch, a sketch, scan sets or other reference data, gradually
developing the concept into the production model. User’s can also incorporate the Pro/ENGINEER Interactive Surface Design “Style” feature with other Pro/ENGINEER features to
create a model that combines the power of parametrically driven features with freeform surfacing. This allows many design alternatives to be considered while design, engineering
and manufacturing information will be updated as changes occur regardless of their complexity.
Instead of a sequential modeling environment, Pro/ENGINEER Interactive Surface Design enables a unique parallel modeling environment, where designers and engineers work
with a unique four-view modeling window that supports the direct creation, manipulation, and control of curves, surfaces, and connections. The flexibility of parallel modeling also
allows the user to establish a parent-child relationship between curves and surface elements if desired. This enables designers and engineers to build free form geometry at any
point in the design, and to model curves and surfaces with as many or as few constraints as desired. By maintaining the focus on value added design, not data transfer and
interpretation, Pro/Engineer Interactive Surface Design helps users quickly define and maintain design intent throughout the entire product development process.

Mechanism Design Product Page Link: Mechanism Design Extension (MDX) Strain” with easy-to-adapt calculations from a classic McGraw-Hill reference book, along with an interactive
The Pro/ENGINEER Mechanism Design Extension (MDX) provides engineers, within the product development process, kinematic motion simulation and behavioral insight into the introduction to the finite element method.
assembly through the easy definition and animation of connections with Pro/ENGINEER, such as pin joints, ball joints and sliders. These connections, and resulting assembly
constraints, facilitate the easy assembly of closed loop systems, like four bar linkages. These connections can be used compatibly and in combination with packaging and
traditional Pro/ENGINEER constraints like mate, align and insert.
Once assembled, engineers can observe how their mechanism designs will behave geometrically through interactive part dragging and user-defined motion simulations. Any point
on a mechanism assembly can be dragged interactively by the user to animate the mechanism. Predefined motion simulations, using drivers to simulate motors or actuators, also
provide animation. Although a full dynamics simulation including forces (friction, damping, springs, etc) must be achieved using Mechanism Dynamics Option (MDO), MDX is a
powerful design tool enabling engineers to create industry-best mechanism designs by clearly building and communicating ‘design intent’ into mechanism assemblies and
subassemblies.
You can also use Mechanism Design to redefine bodies, create slot-follower connections and cam-follower connections, create drivers, play back motion, view measure results, and
investigate models. All connections defined through MDX are useable in a full MDO dynamics analysis as well.
You can also bring your Mechanism Design model into Design Animation to create an animation sequence. Connections, cam-follower connections, slot-follower connections,
connection limits, drivers, and joint zeros are all supported in Design Animation.

Plastic Advisor Product Page Link: Plastic Advisor Option

The Pro/ENGINEER Plastic Advisor Option (PAO) functionality to the user which simulates mold filling for injection molded plastic parts. As an option to Pro/ENGINEER®-
Foundation™, and working directly from Pro/ENGINEER® designs, users simply select the material type and proposed gate (filling) locations. In just a few minutes, the system
provides on-screen animations of the mold filling, plots describing the “moldability” of the design, and the locations of potential problem areas such as weld lines and air traps.

Plastic part designers need immediate and easy access to reliable and easy-to-understand manufacturing feedback and advice in order to make detailed design decisions.
· Designers, not analysis specialists, use Plastic Advisor Option while designing an injection molded plastic part to gain insight into manufacturability and create a more
manufacturable part.
· Plastic Advisor Option is both simple and fast enough to evaluate every design change, not just every design, for injection molding manufacturability.
· Plastic Advisor Option saves money by reducing late-cycle design changes and mold reengineering costs.

Plastic Advisor allows users to simulate the mold filling of injection molded parts at the early stages of part design. This extension is available as a license that can float across the
network, but is locked to a Pro/ENGINEER session for it's duration.

Pro/CABLING Product Page Link: Pro/ENGINEER CABLING Design

This option provides comprehensive functionality for mechanical and packaging engineers for the easy creation of 3D harnesses completely detailed with connectors and
components. The design of harnesses is associative with the Pro/ENGINEER assembly, enabling concurrent engineering by ensuring that cable paths and lengths automatically
update when assemblies are modified.
The design and routing of 3D harnesses will be accelerated and the need for physical mock-ups will be eliminated, dramatically reducing design costs and time-to-market. Product
quality is enhanced by the ability to optimize mechanical and electrical design simultaneously.
Use the Pro/CABLING module to define 3-D cable harnesses in Pro/ENGINEER assemblies. In Pro/CABLING, you can route cables concurrently with the design and assembly of
electrical and mechanical components.
If you use Routed Systems Designer to create two-dimensional schematic representations of electrical assemblies, you can use the Logical Reference capability in Pro/CABLING
and HARNESS-MFG to compare logical connections and parameters in both modules.

Pro/CASTING together provides tools to do the following:
· Analyze if a design part is moldable, and detect and fix problematic zones
· Apply a shrinkage that corresponds to design part material, geometry, and molding conditions
· Make conceptual design of one or a multi-cavity mold
· Design core and cavity inserts, sand cores, sliders, lifters, and other components that define a shape of molded part
· Populate a mold assembly with standard components such us mold base, ejector pins, sprue bushings, screws, fittings, and other components creating corresponding clearance
holes
· Create runners and waterlines
· Check interference of components during mold opening

Pro/CMM CMM programmers can also use the Computer-Aided Verification Option to create inspection programs from Pro/ENGINEER design models. Probe paths for the operation are
generated by specifying geometry and tolerance information directly from the Pro/ENGINEER solid part or drawing. The probe path developed can be replayed and automatically
checked for collisions with tooling and the model. The inspection program is output to a file and passed to the CMM through the DMIS (dimensional measurement inspection
standard) 3.0 language. Any CMM controller that is DMIS 3.0 compliant can use the output directly. Most other controllers can be supported through translators.

About Pro/CMM
Pro/CMM is an optional module of Pro/ENGINEER, which provides the tool to generate inspection programs for Coordinate Measuring Machines (CMMs). CMMs will use these
programs to probe manufactured parts and provide tolerance deviation analyses for dimensions and geometric tolerances. Pro/CMM supports probing using fixed, as well as
manually and automatically indexed, probes. Using Pro/CMM, you can create fully associative, and parametrically defined, measuring sequences relative to Pro/ENGINEER
models. You can also define steps that instruct the CMM to construct geometric entities and reference coordinate systems relative to measured data, and then to perform
dimensional and geometric tolerance analyses on the entities, with respect to reference coordinate systems. Pro/CMM provides dynamic display of the probe assembly along the
path of the probe tip, and allows changing the probe, the active tip, and tip orientation at different points along the path to enable interference checking.

products. Post-processing is a key production tool and manufacturing companies need to control them – and avoid outsourcing their development and maintenance.

Pro/NC-GPOST is a post-processor generation system designed for end users having no software programming expertise. It can accommodate various flame contouring, laser
contouring, wire edm, punch press, lathe and mill machine types that have up to five axes of continuous path control.
About NC Post-Processing
Pro/NC generates cutter location (CL) data files in an ASCII format that need to be post-processed to create Machine Control Data (MCD) files before any machining operation
occurs.
Each Pro/NC module includes a standard set of NC post-processors that can be executed directly or modified using an optional module. Additional post-processors are available for
download on PTC.COM technical support web site (GPOST Central Page).

Pro/NC-SHEETMETAL Product Page Link: NC Sheetmetal

This option allows NC programmers to create, verify, and post-process toolpaths for turret punch presses and contouring laser/flame machines. Pro/ENGINEER part files or DXF
sections may be used as reference for toolpath creation. This option includes automated toolpath creation, automated nest creation, automated punching, and automated
contouring. This product is an option which means it can float independently of any prerequisites
The Pro/ENGINEER NC-Sheetmetal Option allows NC programmers to create toolpaths for turret punch presses and contouring laser/flame machines. Dynamic True Shape
AutoNesting provides the highest sheet utilization to reduce scrap and material costs, and enables shorter lead times to allow manufacturers to advance from a “push” bulk
production system, to a “pull” order driven system.
About Sheet Metal Manufacturing
Sheet Metal Manufacturing creates the data necessary to drive an NC machine tool to machine parts from a sheet workpiece. It does this by providing the tools that let the
manufacturing engineer set up the manufacturing model, and then follow a logical sequence of steps to progress from the manufacturing model to ASCII CL data files that can be
post-processed into NC machine data. The following illustration summarizes the Sheet Metal Manufacturing process.

Pro/PIPING Product Page Link: Pro/ENGINEER Piping Design

Offers comprehensive, associative capabilities and libraries for piping design through manufacturing. Used by system and mechanical designers to accurately design, route,
document and manufacture complex piping systems while optimally reusing designs for dramatic time savings and improvements in productivity.
The Routed Systems Option allows piping designers and manufacturers to parametrically route pipes in Pro/ENGINEER assemblies. It has applications in the automotive,
aerospace, marine, consumer, and power generation sectors. The design engineer can quickly create 3D piping systems consisting of large fitted pipe, bent tubing, and flexible
hose, with accurate bills of material for correct ordering of pipe stock, fittings, and equipment.
The option saves time, costs, and increases performance by producing parametric and associative solid pipe that updates all deliverables when changes are made to the assembly,
providing automatic routing through datum point features and automatic bend note creation, as well as performing interference checks and envelope space investigations.

Pro/PROCESS for ASSEMBLIES Use Pro/PROCESS for ASSEMBLIES to create assembly process plans and serviceability documentation.
Specifically, you can use it to complete the following tasks:
· Define the steps of the assembly fabrication process
· Create a manufacturing BOM for each step in the process
· Regroup components independent of the design assembly to model the fabrication structure accurately
· Assemble tools and fixtures unique to a process step without affecting the design assembly
· Perform time and cost estimates for the assembly fabrication
· Create detailed drawings of each step in the process
· Customize the display of each process step by defining multiple explode states with jogged explode-offset lines and assigning different colors and line fonts to components based
on their status in the step

Pro/PROCESS for MFG Product Page Link: Pro/PROCESS for MFG

Pro/PROCESS for MFG is a stand-alone Pro/ENGINEER module that defines the part machining process steps, material removal, fixtures, and parameter information.
The Pro/PROCESS for MFG part machining process consists of two distinct phases:
1. The process planner defines the process flow of machining.
2. The user details and finalizes the process plan.
After these two steps have been sufficiently defined, the manufacturing engineer, or an NC programmer, creates the NC tool path for actual material removal. The goal of
Pro/PROCESS for MFG is to create a process plan with as much detail as desired, document this process, and then use it to create a manufacturing toolpath.

Pro/PROGRAM About Pro/PROGRAM: Each model in Pro/ENGINEER has a listing of major design steps and parameters. This model design listing can be edited to work as a program. By
running the program, you change the model according to new design specifications.

Pro/REPORT Product Page Link: Associative Drawing Tables

In Drawing mode, you can use Pro/REPORT to create dynamic, customized reports with drawing views and graphics. Pro/REPORT also works with Pro/HARNESS-MFG,
Pro/PIPING, Pro/MFG, and Pro/DIAGRAM. By defining repeat regions, you can add model data to a report, which expands and shrinks as the model changes. You can also use the
following techniques to manage the data that appears in a report:
· Add filters to eliminate specific types of data from appearing in reports, drawing tables, or layout tables.
· Search recursive or top-level assembly data for display.
· List duplicate occurrences of model data individually or as a group in a report, drawing table, or layout table.
· Directly link assembly component balloons to a customized BOM and automatically update them when you make assembly modifications.
You can generate several kinds of output using Pro/REPORT such as family tables, associative reports, and graphical wirelists. A common example of a report is a customized Bill
of Materials (BOM).

Pro/SCAN-TOOLS Scantools provides functions for importing and filtering scan data and for creating and manipulating smooth curves and surfaces.
Scantools was originally developed to aid the automotive industry in the creation of CAD surfaces from point data collected by digitizing a physical prototype or a model.
The conventional process begins by generating a clay model based on an artist’s conceptual renderings and sketches. After the clay surfaces are “perfected” they are then digitized
using either a contact or no-contact method to collect thousands of points. The points are imported into Scantools and smooth curves and surfaces are created using automated
fitting functionality to obtain high quality results in an efficient manner.
Today Scantools is used in various industries, ranging in applications from sculpted surfaces of an automotive body panel or mag wheel to engineered surfaces of an aircraft or fan
blade.
Scantools is unique in that it offers dynamic feedback while manipulating curves and surfaces to measure quantitative criteria such as deviation and qualitative criteria such as 3-D
curvature plots, shaded images (for surfaces), and stylistic highlights (for surfaces). In addition, because the result from beginning to end is a Pro/ENGINEER part file (.prt), it offers
a seamless and associative link to all Pro/ENGINEER applications.
In addition to low density data typically collected from CMMs, Scantools accepts high density "point cloud" scan data in various formats ibl, .pts, .igs, .vda.
Note: All imported scan data, whether in point or curve format, will appear as curves. These scan curves are created as splines passing through the scanned points. The shape may
or may not be an accurate representation depending on the amount of noise in the data.

Pro/SURFACE Parametric Surface Modeling

The Advanced Surface Extension allows engineers to efficiently develop and refine their most demanding geometry and free-form surfaces that are driven by parameters and
functionality much rather than aesthetics. Surface Modeling is using the same code as solid modeling. Most of the solid features can therefore be built using surfaces. In addition,
parametric surface modeling provides users with tools such as variable section sweeps and blended surfaces to help accurately create the intended shape. The benefit is that
surfaces and solids are sharing the same environment, use the same user interface, and can be created in any arbitrary order.
Specifically, parametric surface modeling functionality allows designers to:
1. Define even the most complex geometry. The Advanced Surface Extension surface functionality allows the development of complex surface geometry using sweeps, blends,
extends, offsets, and a variety of other specialized surface features. Tools are available in the Advanced Surface Extension to efficiently refine geometry, including parametrically
modifying the surface, and trimming back or merging multiple surfaces. Surfaces can easily be turned into solid geometry at any given point in the design process.

2. Use information/analysis tools. Numerous tools are available to analyze surfaces such as Gaussian and sectional curvature, slope, surface normals, reflection curves, and
draft checking. The surface models can easily be converted into solid geometry for mass property and assembly evaluations.
3. Use top-down design. An unlimited number of Pro/ENGINEER parts and assemblies can be created referencing a single surface model. When this surface model is
changed, all related parts are modified accordingly.

Pro/VERIFY Pro/VERIFY is an optional Pro/ENGINEER module that you can use to classify and quantify flaws generated in manufactured models when they are compared to design
specifications.

Pro/VERIFY
The details provided below are for reference only and are culled from PTC's product pages, various presentations (past and present) and personal knowledge. There is no guarantee of accuracy or that
the information is up-to-date. This information is subject to change without notice. Consult current PTC documentation before using.
Typically, you use a laser scanner to scan a manufactured model. The scanner outputs a file containing a cloud of point representations of the model— usually several hundred
thousand in one scan. These point representations are generally spaced very closely to detect and measure surface geometry features that are approximately 15/1000 of an inch.
Many laser scanners can achieve accuracy to approximately 25 microns.
Pro/ENGINEER reads in the scan data file and then compares the sampled model to the (nominal) design model, using computer-aided verification techniques. You can quantify
the following types of deviations:
· Global defects, such as warping and shrinkage.
· Mid-level defects, such as those caused by improper EDM setups
· Highly local defects, caused by surface imperfections.
Scan data sets can be in any of the following formats:
· ASCII (filename.pts)
· IBL (filename.ibl)
· IGES (filename.igs)
· VDA (filename.vda)
To maintain compatibility with Pro/ENGINEER formats, Pro/VERIFY first creates an assembly. However, Pro/ENGINEER can distinguish Verify assemblies from Pro/ENGINEER
assemblies.
The Verify assembly has the following characteristics:
· The base component is the design model.
· Each scaled and placed scan set is treated as a component part. When you save the assembly, its scan sets are also saved as separate parts.
Each fit and deviation case is treated as a feature of the assembly.

Pro/Web.Link Pro/Web.Link is a JavaScript Application Programming Interface (API) for Pro/ENGINEER.

Pro/Web.Link’s functionality falls between that of Pro/PROGRAM and Pro/TOOLKIT. Pro/Web.Link functions similarly to a synchronous Pro/TOOLKIT application. A Pro/Web.Link
application runs inside of a browser and “communicates” to a running session of Pro/ENGINEER.
Because Pro/Web.Link applications run inside of a browser, all of the resources of the browser are available, including the ability to use Hyper Text Markup Language (HTML) to
create Graphical User Interfaces (GUI).
Another feature of Pro/Web.Link is that it utilizes JavaScript as its programming language. JavaScript is much easier to learn than the C programming language, allowing
Pro/Web.Link to become a customization tool for the casual programmer.

The Production Machining Option is an option to Pro/ENGINEER-Foundation.
NC programmers and machinists use this option to produce machining programs for discrete parts. It is mainly used by moldmakers and production and prototype machine shops.
In addition, the Production Machining Option eliminates the inaccuracies and inconvenience of exporting Pro/ENGINEER geometry to third party machining software. The NC
Machining Option, is the premier programming system for families of parts with many variations of the same basic design. The programming can be done once for a generic part.
New instances of the part are then swapped in, and the machining automatically updates for all instances.

Shrinkwrap To share data with internal and external design groups and improve performance in large assembly design, you can capture lightweight representations of models, called
"Shrinkwrap models." A Shrinkwrap model is based on the external surfaces of the source part or assembly model and captures the "skin," or outer shape, of the source model.

About Shrinkwrap Features:

· A Shrinkwrap feature is a collection of surfaces and datum features of a model that represents the exterior of the model. You can use a part, skeleton, or top-level assembly as
the source model for a Shrinkwrap feature. You can control the components and the surface subset to include in the Shrinkwrap feature.
· Unlike the Shrinkwrap model, a Shrinkwrap feature is associative and automatically updates to reflect changes in the parent copied surfaces. The Shrinkwrap feature detects
when components have been added or removed, and updates accordingly. You can control updates with dependency control and switch between making the feature dependent on
referenced additional surfaces or independent. The independent state can be useful to avoid unwanted regeneration cycles.
· The Shrinkwrap feature gives an accurate representation of the exterior of a model without the need for having the entire model in memory, so less memory is required. When
created in an assembly, a Shrinkwrap feature can be seen in an empty simplified representation (one that does not have any components). This empty simplified representation (of
this subassembly) can be assembled to another assembly (the parent assembly). Thus the detail of a complex subassembly can be represented in its parent assembly by a subset
of surfaces that requires a fraction of the memory space that would be used if the actual assembly had been assembled instead of the empty simplified representation. This can be
a powerful tool in the manipulation of large assemblies.
· The system creates the Shrinkwrap feature in the object that is currently being modified. All created geometry appears in the modified object. The system captures source
geometry by means of a surface method, along with datum geometry and such shrinkwrap attributes as surface selection and hole removal, according to your specifications. You
can create a Shrinkwrap feature in an envelope part or in an empty component.
