SIZE AND TYPE SELECTION : Determine actual
vertical travel and the piping load at the point of

added to the piping load. Constant supports
should be selected with sufficient over-travel. Our
experience indicates that an over-travel of 20%

CONSTANT SUPPORTS
Part 4300 The 4300 series constant is a simple, rugged, economical unit
Sizes: 1 to 7 designed specifically for supporting small pipe lines which are
subject to large vertical movements. They are especially useful
for supporting high pressure boiler drain, instrument and gage,
gas and oil, and chemical and refinery process lines.
These units are available in 7 sizes, ranging in load from 15 to
755 pounds and 2", 4", 6", 8" and 10" total travels. The units also
offer an adjustment of plus or minus 10% of the given load.
The unit is particularly useful where head room is limited, and
may be bolted or welded to the supporting structure.
To select the proper size, refer to the size selection table
below.
ORDERING: Specify part number, size, load, total travel,
and direction, and mark number (if any).

USEFUL WEIGHT FORMULAS
PIPE PLATE AND BAR
Weight (lb/ft) = 10.68 x T x (D -T) x F Weight (Ib) = 0.2833 x T x W x L x F
PIPE CONTENTS ROUND ROD
Weight (lb/ft) = 0.3405 x G x (D - 2T)2 Weight (lb/ft) = 2.67D2
General Formula : For pipe sizes not shown in the table above (special O.D. pipe, etc.), use the following formula to
determine the insulation weight:
Insulation weight : (lb/ft) = 0.0218 x I x T x (T + D)
Where : I = Insulation density (lb/cu-ft)
T = Insulation thickness (inches)
D = Outside diameter of pipe (inches)

PROPERTIES
OF PIPE
The values listed in these tables are computed t The ferritic steels may be about 5% less , and the austenitic stainless
by the following formulae: steels about 2% greater than the values shown in this table which are
based on weights for carbon steel.
