VOLTAGE GRADING AND
NETWORK PARTITION
Abstract

 In this paper, a model of a large-scale optimal power

Flow is presented. the node injecting current method is
used to divide the large-scale power grid. The subnets
are connected by means of boundary nodes, and the
partition model is solved using the improved
approximate Newton direction method is used to
achieve effective results.
Problem

 In recent years, power system blackouts that have

occurred worldwide have been primarily associated
with the electromagnetic loop network. Blackouts are
often caused by a variety of complex accidents, and
they subsequently expand and cover larger areas due
to the correlation and linkages between these
accidents.
Objective Function :

The objective function to be minimized is chosen as the total system loss.

 X is the set of all controlled variables and state variables

 PGi is the active power of generator in node i.
 PDi is the active power of load in node i,
 SG is the set of thermal plants
 SD is the set of load.

OBJECTIVE FUNCTION & CONSTRAINTS IN
STANDARD FORM

Where h(x) and g(x) represent the equality and inequality constraints respectively
and m(xi) shows the boundary coupling constraint.
INTRODUCTION OF SLACK VARIABLES

*The inequality constraint has been broken down w.r.t upper and lower limits
via the slack variables.
Improved Approximate Newton Direction

The methodology applied is simple. We use the primal-dual method onto the large
Network but with the correction equation (7).
Next we have reduced the dimensionality of the matrix in (8) by decomposing it into the
KKT matrices being applied separately at the boundary nodes subnet and main network.
The four test
systems and their
specifications
All four test systems were
analyzed using both
methods i.e the primal
dual interior method
directly and the improved
Newton Direction Method
(i.e including the
correction matrix.)
Comparing results attained from the two
methods for all four systems
