Intro to Business

Self-Inventory Assignment

February 4, 2018

After taking the self-inventory quiz, my career type was persuader. I was a little surprised

by this. I have always loved everything business related and being a persuader has some things to

do with business but I did expect something a little more business heavy. After reading the

description of a persuader and what a persuader is and does, I could see myself as a persuader

because the things expressed as being a part of a persuader relate to my interests.

Being a persuader involves being able to sway someone’s opinion to your own. Jobs

within this field would include jobs such as a business executive, sales manager, politician,

insurance agent, or a real-estate broker. Another aspect of being a persuader is having the ability

to lead. I do believe I have great leadership qualities but it is not one of my strong suits. I would

prefer working alongside someone, or others, but I’m not sure I would be completely

comfortable with being the sole leader, though I do believe I could be successful as a sole leader.

The scores for the six areas I was scored in, including building, thinking, creating,

helping, persuading, organizing, did not surprise me very much. I achieved a score of moderate

in building, low in thinking, low in creating, low in helping, high in persuading, and high in

organizing. I have never been a very creative person, and I have always been a selective helper. I

can build things if and when I need to but I don’t always enjoy doing it. I do have an interest in

persuading others to my opinion and I organize everything.

The top three careers I found based on my score were accountant or auditor, actor, and

actuary. Of these, I strongly agree with the accountant career as that is what I am seeking to
major in. I could see myself as an actuary, as this is somewhat similar to what an accountant

does. But I do not agree with the career of being an actor. I have never been musically gifted or

have the gift of being a good actor.

With this new information I have realized that I believe I have truly found the major I

have the most interest in. I first enrolled into college looking to major in Sports Management but

I have since changed my mind and look to change my major to accounting. I’m just happy I

found out my true interests before I got too deep into Sports Management. This information has

been quite helpful in helping me decide my major.
