Letter of Recommendation

I have mentored Saumya Ahuja during her summer internship at Indian Institute of Technology,
Roorkee. I was her guide for the project on “Discovering Significant News Sources in Twitter” in
which she gave commendable outputs.

During the internship period, the strategy worked upon by Saumya was ingenious. It added
another dimension to the ongoing research in the field and also marked its importance
through a publication.
Primary Strength:
As we started working together, very quickly Saumya got acquainted with the present trends in
the domain by carefully studying several research papers. Being one step ahead from the
researches done till then and giving a specific direction to the project, Saumya applied an
accomplishing approach to segregate the data. She strived for several weeks and finally devised
her own strategy for data analysis that was quite effective. To this effect, she wrote a research
paper which was presented in an international conference (ICRCICN 2015) and was published in
IEEE Xplore.

As she is my best project student and we spent significant time together, I could closely observe
Saumya. Her main strengths are:
• Ability to discern potential disadvantages/advantages of approaches. Clear understanding
of concepts at root level
• Hard working
• Implementation of complex algorithms and effective integration of strategies to yield
better systems
• Excellent command on writing and oral English. We had to do a little job on her research
paper
• Most important, Saumya is a self-driven individual, which I rarely found in my several
years of teaching

The fact that she is extremely eager to get involved in research-oriented study makes her a very
good candidate for graduate studies. In fact, I would rate her in top three students among the
students whom I have been teaching till now. I strongly recommend her for graduate studies and
appropriate financial support.
