SYNOPSIS

PROJECT TITLE:

“A STUDY ON THE STRESS MANAGEMENT STRATEGIES ADOPTED BY THE EMPLOYEES OF A


BANKING SECTOR IN ASSOCIATION WITH HDFC BANK”

INTRODUCTION:-

Stress management refers to the wide spectrum of techniques and psychotherapies aimed at controlling a
person's levels of stress, especially chronic stress, usually for the purpose of improving everyday functioning.
Various events in life cause stress, starting with the birth of a child and enduring with the death of a dear one.

OBJECTIVES:-

1. To undergo an in-depth study about the existence of stress among the employees of the BANKING
INDUSTRY Post - Recession.
2. To identify the factors causing stress among the employees.
3. To find out the level of stress among the employees of different age groups.
4. To study about the effects of stress on employees in BANKING INDUSTRY.
5. To identify the coping strategies to manage stress.
6. To assess the stress level of all Hdfc Bank employees working in a selected area in Delhi
7. To assess the knowledge of employees suffering with stress on stress management.
8. To assess the effectiveness of self instructional module on knowledge of stress management among
employees with stress.
9. To find out the correlation between pre test knowledge score and selected demographic variables
among employees with stress working in a selected Bank.
Statement of problem including literature review:-

The term stress is a universal problem which is prevailing among irrespective of individual, group, professional and
sector. In the same line of understanding and concept in the globe the banking sector is playing an important role for
the economical upliftment of the respective nation. Moreover, there is a close association and interlink between
economy of a nation and the role of the banking sector in the every country. So, whenever the economy of a nation is
put under changes, then we can notice the changes on the banking activities. Above all, we can perceive the
fluctuations ups and downs in the economical status of a nation like, economical slowdown and economical boom /
prosperity and these two statuses are creating a kind of pressure / stress on the banking sector. Further, as soon as the
implementation of privatization in to banking sector, both private as well as public sector banks were started to feel the
competition in all dimensions. Then the competition pumping the stress among the employees of banking sector.
Though the factors influencing the stress among both private as well as public sector banking employees can be one
and the same but the degree of influences of those factors must be changed between the private and public sector
employee’s and the researcher is wanted to see the difference by way of competition.

Review of literature

Stress is a prevalent and costly problem in today's workplace. The organizational issues and
level of intensity causing stress depending on its influence and occurrence. Level of job stress is a subject
matter of consideration. Job burnout is a psychological syndrome that occurs in response to chronic
interpersonal stressors on the job and mainly found among Bank employees.

Numerous surveys and studies confirm that occupational pressures and fears are far and away the
leading source of stress for Indian adults and that these have steadily increased over the past few decades.
While there are tons of statistics to support these allegations, how significant they are depends on such things
as how the information was obtained self reports answers to carefully worded questions the size and
demographics of the targeted group, how participants were selected and who sponsored the study.
Economic factors that employees are facing in the 21st century have been linked to increased
stress levels. Researchers and social commentators have pointed out that the computer and communications
revolutions have made companies more efficient and productive than ever before. This boon in productivity
however, has caused higher expectations and greater competition, putting more stress on the employee.
The principal components & associated variables indicates that the major factor indicating the
Job Stress were Job security, pressure of immediate boss, poor interpersonal relationships, and loneliness has
been the dominant cause of job stress among the Bank employees.

METHODOLOGY

RESEARCH METHODOLOGY

The research methodology in the present study deals with research design, data collection methods, sampling
methods, survey, analysis and interpretations.

APPROACHES TO RESEARCH

Descriptive approach is one of the most popular approaches these days. In this approach, a problem is
described by the researcher by using questionnaire or schedule. This approach enables a researcher to explore
new areas of investigation.

RESEARCH DESIGN

A research design is the arrangement of conditions for collection and analysis of data in a manner that aims to
combine relevance to the research purpose with economy in procedure.

 A well structured questionnaire is framed.


 Data is collected from the employees in the Hdfc Bank.
 Findings are made and necessary suggestions and recommendations are given.

DATA SOURCES

There are two types of data collection namely primary data collection and secondary data collection.

PRIMARY DATA

The primary data is defined as the data, which is collected for the first time and fresh in nature, and happen to
be original in character through field survey.

SECONDARY DATA
The secondary data are those which have already been collected by someone else and have been passed
through statistical process.

DATA COLLECTION METHOD

The data collection method in this research is questionnaire method. Here the data will be systematically
recorded from the respondents.

RESEARCH TOOL

A structured questionnaire will be prepared to get the relevant information from the respondents. The
questionnaire will consist of a variety of questions presented to the respondents for their despondence.

SAMPLING

Sampling is that part of statistical practice concerned with the selection of individual observations intended to
yield some knowledge about a population of concern, especially for the purposes of statistical inference.

SAMPLE UNIT

The employees of the Hdfc Bank will be the sample unit in the survey.

SAMPLE SIZE

The sample size for this study will be 100 employees.

SAMPLING METHOD

In this research, the sampling methods will be used are Random sampling, Convenience sampling and
Snowball sampling

STATISTICAL TOOLS USED

 Percentage analysis
 Pie diagrams

 Population : All employees in a selected Hdfc bank at Delhi.


 Sample : Employees with stress working in a selected Hdfc bank..

 Sampling technique : Purposive sampling technique.

The relevant employees of the organisation

Data analysis technique:-


Various data analysis techniques will be used in this study taking the data from primary and secondary
sources. In data analysis part of the study, I will use various pie chart, bar chart to make sense in the study.
