COMMENTS FOR DESIGN BASIS REPORT FOR KHASSAB HOSPITAL BY MOTT MCDONALD

PART A :

 Four Storey – Two lower storey –clinical depts. / upper storeys – plant rooms wards
 Ground water not met above 15 meters

PART B : STRUCTURAL CALCULATION FOR SLAB & SLAB ANALYSIS

 Item 5.) Slab Load :

Dead Load = 0.20 Tonf / m2 = 2.0 KPa ( We suggest that you list in calculation report , the
breakdown for the superimposed components resulting to this dead load basis - screed ,
overburden soil , floor finish , etc. )

 Item 6.) Live Load = 0.50 Tonf / m2 = 5.0 Kpa ( please indicate in your calculations the type of
imposed loads you used here , from BS 6399 Part 1 or ASCE , whether this Live Load of 0.50
Tonf / m2 is for parking , garage , assembly area , footpath with vehicle access ,? )

 Item 7.) Kindly recheck the calculations for the 300mm thick cover slab as well as the 400x600mm
intermediate beam B1 ( please observe a conservative but optimum value for these dimensions
considering Items 5 and 6.)

 Item 8.) Max. Steel for Top in Slab = 8.70 cm2 / m which is Y12@120mm both ways - OK !
However , kindly revise this steel reinft , in case , there are changes in slab thickness and changes
in Beam B1 dimensions be introduced.

PART C : STRUCTURAL CALCULATION FOR BEAM B1 AT THE MIDDLE ( 60X40 cm )

 Item 9.) In Concrete Design 2 – Beam Summary Data , Bottom Steel area showed 0.000461 which
is 4.61 cm2 equiv to 2Y20 and 0.000554 which is 5.54 cm2 equiv to 2Y20 . Kindly verify and
confirm the reinforcement sched for beam B1.

 Item 10.) We recommend using 25mm diam to replace 6Y20 and 4Y20 for beam B1 to
accommodate these reinf in the beam width.

PART D : STRUCTURAL CALCULATION FOR WATER LOAD ON WALLS

 Item 11.) Please recalculate this load case adjusting the water pressure to only a depth of 3m ,
instead of 6m. Refer to Holding tank drawing where there is a buffer or air space of 3m above the
3m sewage water , noting the presence of the inlet.

PART E : STRUCTURAL CALCULATION FOR SOIL PRESSURE LOAD ON WALLS

 Item 12.) Please recalculate the bottom soil pressure by introducing Coulomb’s active soil
pressure coefficient Ka , with approx. value 0.30 due to angle of friction of soil to be around 30 deg.
approx. Hence , soil pressure at the bottom should be : pressure = Ka x density of soil x height of
soil .

 Item 13.) PLEASE REANALYSE BY SAP AND RECALCULATE THE WALL REINFORCEMENTS
(VERTICAL AND HORIZONTAL ) CONSIDERING THE ADJUSTMENTS IN PARTS D AND E ABOVE.

 Item 14.) Please include the intercepting chamber in your SAP 3D model and recheck wall
reinforcements as well as the Raft .

PART F : STRUCTURAL DRAWINGS FOR HOLDING TANK TO MATCH WITH REVISED OPTIMUM
CALCULATION RESULTS

 Item 15.) Kindly revise all the drawing details to carefully match with your revised calculations to be
resubmitted for final approval . Please ensure submitting the revised drawing sketch along with the
calculations to merit approval of your holding tank drawings.
