based perspective. I have internship experiences in an elementary school milieu, a residential treatment setting,
a child & adolescent mental health unit of a hospital, and a Boys and Girls Club.

CHILD AND YOUTH WORK EXPERIENCE


DOVERCOURT BOYS & GIRLS CLUB Sep 2016 – Sep 2017
After School “Tots” Programmer & Summer Camp Counsellor
 Collect 12-20 children aged 4-6 years old from school, take attendance and arrange them into
designated groups. Then practice safe walk back to the clubhouse.
 Provide healthy snack for the children, and teach them about nutrition, recycling, and where our food
comes from.
 Design monthly/ summer calendar, and run programs that are based around community, wellness, and
nutrition.
 Reward individual behaviour with the use of a sticker chart, as well as building social skills by
rewarding group behaviour, and encouraging children to work as a team to complete activities
 Debrief with parents and caregivers regarding successes and concerns of their child.
 Debrief with teachers at the school on issues that have happened during the day which Boys and Girls
club need to be aware of for the afternoon.
 Worked at clubhouse events such as the fall and spring festivals.
 Conducted marketing in the form of organizing flyers, and completing phone calls to parents in regards
to our March break and summer camps.
 Cross trained in reception duties, answering the phone in the office and handling questions and
concerns.

St. Joseph’s Hospital – Child & Adolescent Mental Health Unit Jan 2016 – Apr 2016
Student Intern
 Worked with an eight bed short stay mental health unit with various mental illnesses such as suicidal
ideation & attempts, anxiety, depression, schizophrenia, psychosis, and child parent relationship issues.
 Ran therapeutic groups for the youth with themes addressing their needs such as CBT based positive
thinking, self-esteem, and therapeutic goals.
 Assisted in the day classroom on the unit.
 Taking on two patients at a time, and charting for the patients throughout the day in the hospital system.
 One on one work with my patients during quiet time where we collaboratively worked on coping skills
such as mindfulness.

Student Intern Jan 2015 – Apr 2015
 Worked with six high risk teenage girls who live in a residential setting during the week.
 Understood and helped to manage their high risk behaviours such as self-harming, drug use, AWOLing,
bullying, and suicidal ideation through an empathic and strength-based perspective.
 Took the residents out on individual community time, as well as running programs/activities in the
house, and attending weekly programs out of the house.
 Practiced the daily processing paperwork of a residential setting such as Fact/Action/Plan logs (FAP’s),
Daily Logs, Pass-Ons, Incident Reports, Serious Occurrence Reports, Bi-weekly’s, and Plans of Care.

St. Marks Catholic Elementary School


Student Intern Jan 2014 – Apr 2014
 Worked one on one with a co-disordered youth (ADHD and learning disability) outside of the main
classroom. I assisted with reaching IEP goals, and used coping strategies to manage behaviour.
 Supervised recess, and assisted with school work in the main classroom of twenty two children.
 Counselled youth on personal issues using a strength based perspective and empowerment focus.

Bramalea Secondary School – Little Broncos Daycare


Day Care Volunteer Sep 2004 – Jun 2005
 Supervised twelve latency aged children while making snacks, reading stories, doing arts and crafts, and
indoor/outdoor play.
 Worked with staff members and other volunteers as a team to plan program activities for the week.

VOLUNTEER EXPERIENCE

Class Representative for Child and Youth Worker Program Sep 2013 – Dec 2014
 Attend monthly meetings to discuss and resolve any issues pertaining to program as a team.
 Make any important announcement to peers following meetings.
 Help with school events such as a winter clothing drive where we gathered 100+ items, and the spring
open house where 1000+ people attended. Both events were advertised through social media and flyers.

Participant & promoter of 5K run for St. Michaels Hospital Apr 2014
 Promoted 5K run for St. Michael’s hospital to 150+ students to raise awareness about mental health.
 Participated in 5K race, all proceeds were donated to hospital to assist in children’s mental health.
