1 EXCAVATION
Verify elevations, dimensions and grades
Verify location for material disposal
Verify earth bottoms are undisturbed, level and free from
loose, soft or organic matter
Verify over-excavation is corrected according to specs
Engineer to approve completed excavation
Verify dewatering measures are in place and operating
Verify slope protection measures

2 SUBGRADE PREPARATION
Proofroll base of excavation if required by Geotechnical Eng.
Geotechnical Eng. to approve subgrade before construction
Mudslab thickness and finish as specified?

3 LEAN CONCRETE FILL UNDER FOUNDATIONS

Verify conditions are favorable (weather, material, excavation…)
Verify lean concrete mix design
Verify gallery walls are not dampproofed against lean concrete
Piping and utilities are inspected and secured against uplift?

4 BACKFILLING
Has Engineer inspected and approved installation of utilities?
Is insulation installed and approved by the Engineer?
Is dampproofing applied where specified?
Verify weather conditions are favorable
Verify source acceptance tests are completed and approved
Verify testing agency is present for sampling and density
testing (min 4 tests / 100 lineal meters)
Verify equipment for compaction and watering is adequate
Place fills in uniform layers not exceeding 150 mm compacted
thickness and compact each layer as specified
Use hand operated equipment within 1 m of walls

5 RESTORATION
Remove waste material & debris, trim slopes and correct
where directed by the Engineer
